This is like playing an old video game where the new boss fight is just a pallet swap of an existing boss.

The last film also made Kong a total wimp, so why should I care about another ape? This is the worst option they could have gone with. It would have been better to have had no sequel at all.

Don't expect much from american-made Godzilla movies. People still crap on Godzilla 1998 from New York but I actually enjoyed that one because at least it was trying to be something different.

A fun looking action movie. But I still prefer Japanese Godzilla where he is a menace. Him being a hero never made sense. You wouldn't be able to control him or communicate with him your pleas for help, and he wouldn't care

Godzilla's been a heroic figure in far more of the Japanese films then he's been a menace.

This is going to be so cheesy and fun. I'm looking forward to it.

Guys, it's a popcorn flick. It means shut off your brain and enjoy it for what it is. If you need to dissect and deeply analyze this movie then you might as well not watch it.

This doesn't really work anymore with Godzilla. Minus One showed that these don't have to be stupid, it's a choice that the American productions are making.

See that's what's wrong with some of you consumers. You think just because it reached a certain height it means the standards and expectations should always be there now.

It's like thinking every MCU movie needs to meet Endgame expectation from now on or it's a failure.

This is such a weird outlook. If a smaller production can make a better kaiju movie for the fraction of the cost while making a shit ton of profit then, yeah, the American producers should be reevaluating what tf they're doing lol

No it isn't. This trailer shows Skar is one of the villains but there's an even Bigger Bad.

Everything doesn't have to "be the same" but why make a movie fully knowing it's going to be bad in comparison to everything that came before lol like this movie looks significantly worse than GvK and that movie was dog shit.

Probably because they don't "know it's going to be bad." You're certainly entitled to your opinion but where you lose it is assuming you're speaking for everyone. The consumers who've seen these films are quite happy for the most part, which is why they've been successful.

Because not everyone is gonna come looking for a Godzilla movie about humanity. Some people just enjoy monster fighting. Different strokes for different folks. Kong with Infinity Gauntlet and Godzilla that turns into SSJ Rose? Sign me the fuck up.

It's just not for you and that should be okay.

i like both the deep emotional alagory godzilla films and the ones where godzilla just fights other kaiju

All seriousness though, I know it's going to be goofy as fuck, but I don't care just give me good looking scenes of the big chimp with the godzilla spine grapple fighting the big ape with the infinity gauntlet in a metropolis while Super Saiyan Rose Godzilla attacks the chimp. Previous one was good enough aside from the plotline with the conspiracy theorists and Deadpool 2 kid going on a globe trotting trek.

That movie released in the middle of the pandemic so its not a fair estimate by any metric to use.

As for the trailer Ive loved everything Ive seen so far. Dunno how well or not it will do but Im definitely going to see it.

That's the point I'm making, the person I quoted claimed the American producers didn't know what they were doing with Godzilla, I pointed out the American movie made twice as much as the lower costing Japanese version despite releasing same day on max. The movie's box office was $470mil it cost $200mil to make and another $70mill to promote, it made $200mil.

And on top of that it was released simultaneously on HBO Max streaming, so we don't know the figures around those numbers as well.

With that said, I get that people really like Minus 1 better than any of the American made Godzilla movies so far (I am one of those people as it fits much closer to the original first Godzilla movie), but to make ignorant statements that Americans shouldn't make new Godzilla movie is just another level of stupid.

The whole movie plot was leaked like a month or two ago on top of the toys and this trailer basically confirmed them.

It makes a lot of sense though with how massive budgets for films are now. This setup allows Godzilla to continue as a major franchise without Toho themselves having to pump out movies every 2 years. And the last two they did do are considered to be two of the best films in the franchise.

What happened to trailers just being a full scene from a movie that really gets you hooked? Like, the trailer i saw for The Strangers was just the scene of homeboy chilling in the background while that chick was on the phone. It was simple and great and made me want to see the movie without giving away the entire damn story.

Yea, I think people are just using minus ones success as an excuse to bash the franchise. Even though the monsterverse movies have been on par with the vast majority of Godzillas films up till now and single handling kept the franchise relevant untill now.

Also while Toho did great with shin and minus one they cant keep relying on standalone movies and or terrible/forgettable anime series forever.
