That's not gonna happen, at least any time soon. The U.S. government and military would never agree to disarm its nuclear weapons supply. Unfortunately, Pandora's box has already been opened and we can't just make everyone forget how to make them.

As far as I know, the United States is the only nation to actually attack with nuclear weapons despite many other countries having them. The chances that Japan would actually use these nuclear weapons is slim, but at least they'd have a defense.

Whatever country had the bomb first in WW2 would have used it, it was too much of a tactical advantage not to.

That's arguably like saying the EU is evil because it's basically run by the Germans, and the Germans were Nazis in WWII. Or that the French government today should be held responsible for all the murders during the Revolution.

Or more along the lines of the politics of this board, that Biden should be held 100% responsible for all of the actions and policies of Trump because they were both US Presidents.

Could also make the argument that no one on Earth should ever trust the US with nukes because not only are we the only nation that has ever used them, but throw because of all the natives we murdered and all those people we enslaved. Taken over time our government policies are pretty much a litany of atrocities.

Context and continuity of command absolutely needs to be taken into account when attempting to make sweeping generalizations.

the actual reason japan doesn't have any nukes is because they don't want any lmao. they could very easily leave the nuclear non proliferation treaty. they'd immediately be seen as villains for it, but they very much could. it's not like they couldn't make any, either. they're full on nuclear over there already for their energy. that's why they're considered a latent nuclear state

fun fact: the only reason they didn't make a nuke in ww2 is because they didn't think it feasible to try it, and their reports suggested that it also wasn't feasible for bigger nations, namely the united states, either, so they shifted focus to radar technologies.

There's a difference between actually having nuclear weapons and merely being allowed to have them. If the U.S.A. really does have the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons, it has no moral grounds deciding whether or not anyone else is allowed to have them.

the chances that japan would take offensive preemptive action against the US in some way were very much not miniscule though, because the lend-lease program was us dancing around with guns in the open before we handed them off to the people that were shooting at them. it was a very stupid way to go about it because it provided an emotional casus belli, but it wasn't inherently illogical given that leadership in the US was set on finding one way or another to intercede in the war anyways

modern japan has no militaristic bone in its body when compared to imperialist WW2 japan so comparing pearl harbor to nukes is pretty silly
