iirc some people who use turbo tax do pay nothing at all. Supposedly the new govt one for this year has no cost at all

i'm in australia most of it's done automagically, we just need to make sure our end of year figures from work match the tax office (or vice versa) and then click a button and you're done.

Turbo charges a lot but I like the peace of mind that I'm doing things right, and it's easy for our tax situation.

I use H&R Block and pay extra to get their Peace of Mind protection, which already saved me about $600-800 when my 2016 return had to be amended, so I think its $1p0-200 or something with that, I cant remember.

You might not have any state taxes to pay.

It's likely going to be TurboTax because I've run with them for like a decade now, and the value is just having the retrievable history in case needed and somehow lost everywhere else.

I missed the Feb 9 cut off for it being free because I'm waiting for my IRA-related docs (M1). Pisses me off a bit, especially since my IRA has been stagnant due to my investments being focused elsewhere atm so I can't even say I made enough gains to make up for the fees.

this and that's only because they did the state filing for me. i heard the free irs thing had an overall limit so i didn't even look into it. every time i've used turbotax in the past, it cost a lot more than 15 bucks.

I can't find a good free preparer anymore since I have an HSA, which is supposedly uncommon and makes them charge you money. So now I just go through freetaxusa for $15

$60 for just Federal. I've been with TurboTax like 10 years, so to me it's worth it. It takes me roughly 8-10min per year to E-file.

We had to buy the fancy Taxact for ours, State & Federal was $170, but at least I had an Amex cashback offer and will get $50 back on the purchase.

Did it with Turbotax for years, used to cost like $70 or something. I always had to upgrade up a level because I had stock transactions.

Switched to FreetaxUSA last year and saved a bunch though I think I still had to pay some for state.

This year my tax situation is all sorts of fucked up so I'm opting for a professional. I have no idea how much I'm supposed to pay for one of those.

I think TurboTax cost me 89 bucks. The past couple years I've been getting basically nothing. Like 120 dollars. Subtract the 89 I might as well get nothing. Hoh well. New tax bracket.

Turbotax gives you like five registrations per purchase so I always get it from a relative for free.
