I think it just means you're generally supposed to start getting checked around 45, unless if you're already experiencing issues.

edit: I guess it's closer to 50/55 unless if someone in your family had prostate cancer, then sooner

I am assuming people here are talking about colon cancer screening. The procedure for checking for it can damage your colon (its a very small chance). For some young people getting damaged by the procedure is more likely than finding cancer.

Don't take medical advice from random people on the Internet though, see an actual doctor because everyone is different and screening for cancer may or may not make sense for individual people.

Yes happened to 2 people I know. Both were 70+. One bled out internally. The other had his colon punctured. They had to repair it. He spent 4 months in a nursing home recovering. I checked to see if he was alive and since my partner had died in 2020. I wanted to see if he I could visit and talk about my partner and old times ( they were coworkers and good friends). Sadly I heard he passed away in 2022. He lived a long life 87 isn't too bad

Still get checked. It's rare something bad happens

It's not just prostate cancer you need to be worried about. I suggest everyone get a full physical every few years past 30. Better to be embarrassed and have nothing wrong with you, then find out you have something and its too late to treat it without surgery.

Yes I dont disagree there. I was thinking more about the lack of trained people who could actually do the jobs and lack of hospitals to actually do it in.

You could go to the extreme and suggest every single person should be tested for everything once a month and in a thought experiment with infinite resources that would be great. In reality you have to make decisions on where to spread your resources.

We saw with Covid how hard our hospitals got hammered and testing everyone every year would require a lot more resources than that. Its just not feasible.

But yeah I agree in a world where staff, money, resources are infinite then yeah Id be well on board.

30 is better. Trust someone who went through Cancer twice. Your never too old to get checked out, at the very least having a full physical at 30 should be mandatory for all people. And it should be inexpensive for those living in the states.

We could easily have a lot more hospitals and trained staff if we chose to invest in it. We dont because people in power dont want to.

Im not saying monthly screen the entire population for every cancer known to man. We dont even have reliable methods of detecting everything early.

But theres no reason to not have, for example, a cologuard or blood tests available to anyone that wants a screen.

And other comments that act like the world with a handful of inconvenient false positives is worse than the world with a lot less cancer and thus arguing against it as medically/scientifically necessary range from dishonest to useful idiot.
