It's one of those I've wanted to for a long time. Started a couple of days ago. I didn't know a lot about the story beforehand. I knew who 2B is from appearance and name. I also know the game has multiple endings (I have two lol) and that you're required to palythrough multiple times to experience the whole thing. I believe that was it.

I just got to the point where the City gets attacked and now it's even more wrecked.

Gameplay has been up and down but generally pretty good. Targeting sometimes annoy me but it's minor. Atmosphere and story has me very intrigued though, I enjoy the mystique a lot. 2B and 9S work well together, she is probably the cooler one, but she wouldn't be interesting without him around at all.

My only issue with the game is lack of fast travel. Especially since side quests became quite numerous. There is no excuse for this to not exist in some way.

This can be a playthrough topic if people care.

Okay while that's a relief why the hell is it not available already. Half these side quests made me wander out through that large dessert area.

Tag. Have you played Nier 1? Also I would say don't worry about rushing stuff if you feel like it, there's plenty of chances to see everything, especially with multiple playthroughs.

It's not really difficult though it's just annoying.

I am going to stop doing side quests until I reach this point lol. A thought about side quests; the difficulty of stuff that is available at the same time seems rather large. I have failed this parade one a bunch of times because the parade gets killed lol.

Yes that's the meaning of difficult I meant, not actual difficulty.
I'm pretty sure he's even said in an interview he thinks side quests should be annoying to do at some point when someone brought it up to him? Too lazy to look it up, though.

He's a bit of a troll and a bit insane.

I don't think most side quests go away with progression so you can definitely feel free to save them for later. I remember that parade one being quite hard, too.

I should probably mention my general schedule is super irregular so good chance I advance a lot some days and not at all on others rather than keeping a steady pace.

I thought with the interest to leave some more general thoughts I recall having as I went along.

I thought it was odd but fun the game started with very simplistic Star Fox like gameplay. It was a fine prologue before getting some explanation of things upon arriving at the bunker. Having fled to the moon is amusing.

I was initially not too fond of the City Ruins area but I've liked it more once coming back. Also now that it's a hole in the ground. One of the first things I did was crossing a bridge and there was some level 30 thing so I ran back.

It's interesting that animals are wandering around still.

I don't like the shortcut menu to use recoveries, it's unintuitive and not very good for using in a pinch considering you can pause and give yourself the time. It's annoying to use them on circle because that's very much the natural close menu button. Well, anyway.

Dessert area is also a bit large and empty for my taste, but it's not too bad.

I think the game picks up a lot (not that it was bad before) when you reach the point in the dessert where the machines are trying to act like humans. I'm not quite sure what to make of that, my thought has been it's a way of messing with the feelings the androids pretty obviously have to some degree despite hiding it.

Amusement park area was cool, best area from design perspective yet imo. I felt bad about killing the passives at first but they respawn so it's fine.

The Jean Paul quest you get in the forest base is by far the worst yet and having that right before fast travel unlocks is just a d*** move.

I'm guessing it makes sense to invest in the scientist guy? You seem to get decent items for it, but I haven't given a lot yet.

I'm one of those compulsive gamers who needs to do all available tasks or else I'm unable to move on with the story. The amount of time I completely wasted doing sidequests running from one side of the map to the other just to find out there was fast-travel later... I'll never get those hours back.

After not being home at all for two days I continued a bit today. Beat the castle in the forest. I had done a side quest with YoHRa deserters before, didn't like what I was doing, now fighting A2 a bit. I wouldn't surprised at all if their side was the better one.

I guess it was inevitable that 2B would have to save 9S at some point for the predicted charcater development.

It seems to mean I can't progress any quests except the one where you give the scientist money. I had just gotten the last lunar tear for Emil's quest at the exact place I progressed to the big flying section. I guess I still have the elevator key he gave me.

Oh I bet I know exactly which one that one is.... yeah, the game's kinda a jerk about that one; you can go to the place where they were when they blinked, before the game tells you to go there. But if you don't go there until the game tells you to go there, well, you saw what happened. But also

It feels weird that the point of no return was at that point and not when you got into the machine that started a sequence of events that ended with you no longer having 9S around.

Anyway, I cleared the factory. The machines taking religion upon them was an interesting aspect.

I got a trophy for 80% of plug in chips so I presume first playthrough is almost done.

Returning to camp and seeing the machines eat most of the resistance sure was a sight.

Well that's fair!

Credits allowed you to actually read them unlike the other endings I have gotten.

On that note, I should sleep but I was curious so I started playing again doinf the bit with the machine brothers before taking control of 9S. Then I apparently immediately went the wrong way to get an ending which would mean doing the machine oil bit again and then I thought why not just sleep. But I am very much curious to continue.

Anyway, I played more than that last night, I just didn't get around to write about it here. I just reached the amusement park. It's a little bit mixed so far because I bunch of it is the same and that's a big of a drag but there has also been a few scenes added, I'm expecting more of this as we go. I feel like not having been able to open the chests before means that you can't truly rush everything either, though at least it's most archive stuff which is cool.

I had to do the two first side quests again, but the rest stand as completed or are still gone in case I didn't complete them in time (the one with the scientist being an exception). Hopefully I can pick up the 2-3 I didn't complete because I didn't realize it would be too late.

I'm mostly curious to see if we learn more about the universe and what has happened and the yohra desserters and their reasons, which potentially ties together, I was surprised A2 never returned again after the fight wasn't finished, that has got to come up again. But so far this is mostly 9S' perspective of the same story which shouldn't really give more information about these things, I don't expect him to have "hid" much information, he was the one thinking out loud all the time. The dessert sequence was almost identical and I expect the amusement park to be the same. We'll probably learn some stuff later on when he's seperated from 2B though, I'm looking forward to that part but it's a while. Then there are these small cutscenes about the machines and symbols occasionally to keep it fresh I suppose.
