Trump should absolutely be in jail for his crimes and he's the biggest threat to democracy this country has ever faced domestically post-civil war, however he's also the best candidate for Joe Biden to beat and for the general electorate Haley's own Christo-fascism likely flies under the radar as she's pretty good at presenting herself as a "normal, sane conservative".

The real question stems from how Trumper's respond. If Trump runs third party/talks shit about Haley, that could hurt her chances with depressed turnout by fascists. If he endorses her because she's already said she'll pardon him and he sees it as another way to escape his crimes, she's a real threat to both the election and the nation.

In absolute no way does Hailey beat Biden. Democrats could replace Biden with almost anyone else and they could beat Hailey.

Only because Trump wasn't on the primary list as he's planning to use a caucus she's not a part of to basically steal the delegates. If Trump endorses her because she's already promised to pardon him for his crimes, she becomes a real contender.

Also, she did still get 30% of the vote.

The way I see it is this.

Republicans had a nearly-guaranteed path to their version of fascism on a ~50 year time scale by following the W Bush playbook of being fascist and thoroughly lying that they weren't being fascist. The mainstream media and swing voter morons eat that shit up.

With Trump, it's much more blatant, so there's a chance the GOP's fascist power grab fails because Trump is so obvious about it. On the flip side, it's depressing to see how high the chance of GOP success is, even when Trump is ranting about being the next Hitler.

She doesn't stand a chance at beating trump in the primary, her only shot at the general it's if trump gets thrown in prison or dies and even then I'm not sure lol.

If some miracle happens and she beats trump then I think she's a dangerous matchup against Biden. Her main issue is going to be convincing the trump base to vote for her but I think she'll be able to swing enough independents and moderates back to voting Republican and if she has them and the base Biden is done for. She won't win the popular vote but we're talking about tens of thousands in a few states that are going to decide the election. Plus one of the big things Biden has going for him is the anti trump vote, if he's not running there's going to be a pretty significant amount of people that might not bother without that threat.

It's going to be close no matter what, best thing is to hold trump accountable and let the dice fall where they fall politically but work like hell to make sure a Republican doesn't make it back into the presidency

No she won't. The cult won't vote for her because she's not Trump, and the rest of the Republican party's voters won't vote for her because she's a woman and/or Indian.

I feel like there are a large group of Trumpers whose reaction to him having 2020 "stolen" from him and then having removed from the next election through his trials or whatever aren't going to be enthusiastic about participating in the 2024 election.

I think more and more people are starting to come around but I don't think it's all stupidity, ignorance for sure and lots of bad/misinformation leads a lot of people to believe that there aren't significant differences between Republicans and Democrats.

The worst is when I hear people say "I really don't like him but I've always voted republican"

And that's why Haley is so dangerous. One of my progressive pundits I listened to says he'd begrudgingly accept a Haley presidency if it meant Trump went to jail as a consequence of us actually enforcing our Cons. as intended, and I can certainly sympathize because it's the ultimate enforcement of nobody being above the law and our founding document actually being useful, my only issue is Haley would also enact Project 2025 and she'd pardon Trump anyways.

Haley has youth and a "not so bad or extremist soccer mom" vibe, even though that's total bullshit, however for the general electorate I worry how much they'll be hoodwinked by her.

I certainly wouldn't want our country still being too sexist to make a woman POTUS to be what saves us from her presidency, but also damn do I not want her anywhere near the Oval Office.

Yes, Trump has put it all out in the open, and a big issue is people are associating that with Trump himself. They may be privy to what's going on with the GOP in the House, especially with recent news, however Haley isn't in the House and I worry that the common person doesn't realize that this Christo-fascist rot just is the modern Republican Party.

Though not progressives, I still hear other media figures refer to "the extremist minority" or "the crazy ones in the party", which seemingly gives cover to the rest of the party's awfulness. Nobody even knew who Mike Johnson was until he became Speaker and look at the disaster he's been. Dude was always a true-hearted Christo-fascist, and yet he was just in the background, which if he wasn't Speaker these media figures would still be obfuscating reality in regards to people like him; background House GOP members not making headlines.

They're going to do the same for Haley while constantly telling us how old Biden is and I don't trust the general public to not fall for it.

Plus, he's spent the past 3 years talking about nothing but 2020, and I'd imagine swing voters are getting pretty tired of his whining, especially since he has still provided no evidence to support his claims.

A president who is constantly looking back at the past isn't endearing to people asking about the future, and add to that that Trumps only policy plan for the future is "revenge" and you have a recipe for a potentially lopsided Trump loss.

As I've said before, Trump has his cult locked up, but he's doing absolutely nothing to endear himself to anyone else, and he needs those votes to win.

It's a terrifying thought, what's going to happen when the "loyalties" of the MAGAts are put to the test. Trump isn't getting any younger. I have no idea who else has whatever his base rallies around. The knack for speaking in coded language that fascist supporters absolutely thrive on, while flying over the heads of most people.
