Those are westerners. Japan is my homeland. I watched plenty of animes and played Akiba's Trip to prepare for Japan and did it a great job because I didn't feel the culture shock from my home country at all.

I don't get the people who thought a lot of people there would be speaking English. Why? Most people there aren't going to be traveling to English-speaking countries regularly.

I think some people watch too many movies where someone goes to a country and everyone they run into just happens to be fluent in English because the story needs them to be.

In fairness, if you go to major cities in most of Asia, theres a lot of English speaking people.

I'd assume Japan does the same thing as South Korea where anyone but Koreans are automatically "foreigners" and there isn't much nuance about it, they see the entire world as Koreans and not-Koreans.

In Tokyo you'll be able to largely get about with English, things get a lot trickier once you get out of Tokyo even in touristy areas.

If you want to go somewhere like Hokkaido? Learn Japanese or bring somebody who knows it with you.

Oh and the younger somebody is the more likely they are to speak English.

Wait until they leave Tokyo and see what Japan is really like.

Did you not go walking about at night? I don't think I've had a single trip to Japan where I didn't get propositioned on the street. They were almost always Chinese girls though.

I was in Shinjuku at night walking around by myself. I had a bunch of Nigerians try to get me to their bars but no prostitutes : (

Most likely he meant not only Americans.

If the video had a mix of various European nationals, Canadians, and Americans, for example.

Also, I like to imagine some dumb af American(s) going there and being like, "We came to Tokyo for their world-famous racing, and we didn't see a single person drifting".

Japan actually teaches English from 3rd grade through the 3rd year of high school, however because they don't have many native speakers it leads to many Japanese citizens being adept at reading/writing it (notice how a lot of their clothing/brands/stores will just randomly have English), however not being very confident at speaking it.

I found the opposite lol. I met a girl that spoke pretty fluently, but writing emails and texts with her is a fucking trainwreck to parse through >_>
