i'm confused why anyone would care about this

The thing I see most is that gen z (not all of them of course) seem to think theyre the ones who made and get internet culture and millennials are lame for trying to get in on it. It does somewhat amuse me millennials get butthurt about that because I know fully well many of us think we did the same when gen x laid the groundwork for that and was already making internet culture when it was a very young invention. If anything I think that gens x/y/z/a have more in common with eachother than all the generations before them and we shouldnt really focus on the differences.

Millenials are becoming the new Boomers: the generation that gets blamed for not making things better for their successors. Whereas the Boomers brushed it off as laziness, the Millenials will hurt because they thought they were better than that.

Meanwhile, Gen X just continue to sit at the back of the class and shrug disinterestedly if anyone looks in their direction.

People need to stop acting like Gen X isn't just as fucked up as everyone else just because "Gen X" didn't enter the modern meme nomenclature.

I think it can make sense if you place it in a certain socio-economic context. I wouldnt even count people like her no matter the generation because theyre in such an estranged bubble they barely know anything about the world. A gen z from the same class is just as fucked up already.

Miles Davis, among others said that one of the key attributes of being "cool" is understanding that a lot of the shit people want you to be interested in really doesn't matter, and isn't worth getting worked up about.

Each successive generation, with at least some justification, will blame the previous one for fucking them over.

Millenials assumed they'd be different, but Gen Z is just giving them what they give Boomers. And soon enough, Gen Alpha will be giving it to Gen Z for not fixing all the shit Millenials caused

That's the thing though. Gen X didn't get that. Millennials never hated Gen X, they looked up to Gen X. Millennials skipped them to hate on Boomers, but Gen Z did not (They do hate boomers, but they give it to millennials too)

I'm not sure how much Millenials distinguish the bad Gen X from Boomers. Or the good ones from themselves.

I definitely think this is part of it, Gen X just seems to not care. I just think of them hanging out, going to grunge and punk rock shows, not concerning themselves with all the nonsense. While millennials are famous for like avocados and harry potter (and I love harry potter so Im a victim of this too). But I feel like millennials got this reputation of being like soccer moms and dorks that Gen Z is far too cool for, and Gen X was looked at more like jaded rockers and skaters or something. It just seems like Millennials got the worst reputation of the bunch where Gen X seemed to grow up pretty well maintaining the coolness of their youth lol and millennials became our corny and overprotective parents

Of course all of this is probably nonsense but that's how it comes off to me sometimes and I think stereotypically online.

Just remember, a lot of Gen X was made up of latchkey-kids. We ended up having to raise ourselves. So a lot of the "not caring" comes from the fact we were ignored.

It's a "If you don't want us, fuck off. We'll make our own way." attitude. Hence why punk was a thing back then. That... and the threat of global thermonuclear war.

Isn't like every kid since 1970 a latch key kid. I don't know a lot of families these days who can afford to have a stay at home parent

It's illegal to leave a child home alone (before the age of, I think, 12 or 13?). That's why day-care is such a big deal nowadays.

Many Gen Xers got up after their parents left for work... and got home from school to an empty home. At ages as young as 5-6.

It is interesting just looking this up that there actually arent laws about leaving kids at home. So I wonder when the preference for day care started seeing how its ungodly expensive

But more seriously, millenials grew up caring about entertainment and normal kid things so could look up to gen x rock bands etc. Zoomers grew up aware that the climate was failing and no one was doing anything about it, so blame everyone older than them the same way (current day) millenials do.

Interesting. I do wonder how much has to do with the culture we admired as kids. Gen X brought us the Simpsons for one thing. Who else knew a Gen Xer as a kid that was the first to show you it? Millennials did a lot for the internet but we grew up before it totally invaded our lives so had a chance to look up to Gen X culture. even though millennials did a lot with the internet, social media was not nearly as prevalent then, so TikTok culture is its own kind of thing, and maybe Zoomers didn't get the chance to have the cultural handoff we did? or maybe its just an attitude thing...maybe millennials and zoomers just have such different attitudes there isn't the same respect there, or maybe Zoomers feel even more strongly than we did that they are their own bubble on the internet that we just don't understand

Maryland Family Law 5-801 states that it is a CRIME to leave a child younger than 8 years old unattended, locked or confined to a home, car, building or other enclosure without proper supervision.

8- to 10-year-olds may be alone for more than 1.5 hours during daylight hours. By 11 to 12 years old, children can be unsupervised for up to three hours, but not late at night. 13- to 15-year-olds can be allowed alone at home for any period, except overnight.
