I agree.

I was hired remote to start for over a month, then moved to the town the company is in (they paid for it), then we went hybrid (2 days WFH). And one two of our team members are fully remote, while the CMO and Lead Account Manager are also mostly remote.

All of us could easily do our jobs remotely.

It's annoying af.

Not to mention we opened a new office and my commute went from 2 minutes to 15 minutes.

Do it King.

I'm in IT and I literally have done my job from home before but since we're an "essential department" we have to be in house

TC, your wife can just keep working from home. Make up something. You already got a golden ticket of an excuse, your child. Kid is sick, grandparents need in-home care, etc. All the while she is willing to fulfill all job duties remotely.

It is very rare for companies to fire people because they say to return to office but you don't while still doing the job.

My life has improved a crap ton now that i mainly WFH. I caught up a ton of movie and video game backlogs. I have time to cook more home cooked meals. More time to unstress myself. It's amazing.

True, but I have friends who work fully remote jobs that have already stated they will not be returning to office (one even sold all their buildings) that can likely get me on with them.

For the time being Ill suffer at this place, Im very good at my job and have seniority so Im not at risk of being let go or anything.

While it could fall under the former, let's not forget the "labor got a perk that capital never intended to give so gotta claw that back"

There's a reason across the board CEOs are following the same concept despite providing no statistics or data that there's an efficiency or profitability boost with RTO (because if there was, they would have yelled it loudly). Almost every one has used abstract concepts with no proof.

This
No commute
Lunch break to chill, play games, go grocery shopping, etc.
Do laundry while working
Do dishes while working
Meal prep while working
Work in whatever attire you want
Work at a desk or on your couch
Blast music whenever you want
No forced office politics
Travel and work

There's literally no benefit to working in an office if your job can be done remotely. You get so much more of your life back.

For real. Not even the wear and tear on your vehicle, but I get back 2 hours a day from not having to drive into work anymore, as I suspect most people are in similar places where they save like an hour a day. That's massive.

Whats not to understand? Working from home means saving a ton of money on gas. And car maintenance. But more importantly, more free time. Instead of spending an hour+ driving every day not driving at all.

Not to mention not having people hover over you all day, being loud and distracting. Getting to listen to music or put on a movie in the background or something.

Sounds like absolute bliss to me.

Related to this, you get to sleep more which is great for your physical and mental health.

And if you accidentally sleep in and wake up 5 minutes before your shift? No biggie, hop over to your home office and clock in on time, you can shower after work or on lunch.

Do that when you work in an office and it is literally impossible for you to be at work on time.

You have to work 8 hours regardless. People like me have 45-minute commutes (more like 55-1hr+ commutes with traffic being busier now) which means at least an hour and a half of my day is spent in a car. On top of that, there's more prep time in the morning to get ready. On top of that, if I arrive after 8:30, parking is $25 along with the gas money... it's not worth.

i just moved recently to be closer to my job. the commute was making me depressed af

I bet alot of the people here working from home instead of the office actually depend on amazon workers (people who show up to work).

Yep. I wake up like 10 minutes before I start work and I've grown accustomed to now taking a nap during my lunch. Also, not only is it better for me, but it's better for my dogs that I am not leaving alone (or caging) 10 hours a day AND I get to just randomly get down on the ground and wrestle around with them whenever I want.

I guess part of the difference is I dont fight traffic. I really dont get upset if traffic is moving slow or I catch all the red lights. It is what it is and getting mad doesnt help anything.

I see other people swerving around and honking their horns like maniacs who look like their heads are about to explode. I dont understand this mindset either.

i dont know what changed after covid but the past year i could never just "chill" in traffic. im not an aggressive driver but everybody else. feels like rubberband ai or something in a n64 racing game. everybody constantly on my ass tailgaiting. people trying to swerve in and out and cut me off and pass me even if im going 20 over the speed limit ,there is literally no limit some of these drivers stop at, they treat some roads in my city like an autobahn, sometimes i get a little road ragey at how they drive and i just hit the gas and they STILL try to pass me while we are both going 90. it literally makes no sense.

it was exhausting being hyper vigilant on my drive to work just to not die

Sounds like youve been lucky enough to never work for a company that writes you up because you were late due to not having psychic abilities letting you know to leave an hour early to avoid the car wreck on the main road to work

most of those angry drivers are in a rush and getting pissed because theyll be homeless if theyre not clocked in on time.

bruh for real i would be fired at my current job if there was a clock in sheet. im super fortunate my job is super lax about that

My company owns the office I work in; the primary reason for our hybrid arrangement is that there are a significant number of employees (roughly 50% were physically onsite throughout the pandemic) that can't do their jobs from home and management doesn't want to create a two tiered system.

New CEO must have heard about how like 90% of her new employees are pissed off about this and sent out an email apologizing for lack of transparency but doubling down on why its happening.

I reported it as phishing because the first thing they did on my first day of work was set up my email and tell me about reporting obvious bullshit as phishing and that was my one day in office
