Were they?

Apparently they were all supposed to lose their jobs according to some people

ChatGPT and other AI tools are really good in helping stream line and quicken things like writing test cases and other stuff

I think it can be used to help a lot of programmers get things done quicker if used correctly

Well, if it does happen it wont be instantaneous. Ive used ChatGPT for a while now. It can be useful and it can also be completely wrong, and it doesnt have a way to tell you how confident it is in its answers. It doesnt know how to just say I dont know when it comes to programming.

I dont think in it current state it can replace any level of programmer. But 2 years from now who knows.

If ChatGpt stole anything from you you were never very good at it anyway.

There is no point to be being talented if theres no untalented people to utilize said talent.

Yup but it's so freaking good at being a pair programmer. Literally halves the time it takes me to do things plus if I'm stuck on a complicated bug that uses tech I haven't touched before, it can find the issue right away 9 times out of 10.

But for how long is traditional programming going to last? X-as-code and AI-native languages seem inevitable.

I know some programmers in the industry who use it as a useful tool. It's made their lives much easier and accelerates their work a lot if used properly.

No, it needs a programmer to deal with the output.

It's pretty good at writing like 90% correct code. So some manual tweaks needed at the end but gets you most of what you want if you're being lazy or need to do something in a syntax you're not great at. If you have no idea what you're doing and try to build something with pure chatgpt code it's probably not going to get you far. It's also pretty good at helping you rubber duck debug something you're working on.

As someone who dabbles with making things for fun... I feel like as a beginner it's good to lay framework if you really don't know where to go. I also feel like if you know what you're doing, it'll save you on work but not time if that makes sense, due to the fact you'll likely be going back over everything to make sure the AI didn't have a brain fart halfway through.
