Already looking ahead to the public unrest his hypothetical re-election could cause, Donald Trump and his allies are reportedly circling an idea to invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office, deploying the military to act as domestic law enforcement.

The Washington Post reported Sunday that the drafting of such plans has largely been unofficially outsourced to a coalition of right-wing think tanks working under the title Project 2025, according to one insider and internal communications obtained by the newspaper.

In response to questions, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said, President Trump is focused on crushing his opponents in the primary election and then going on to beat Crooked Joe Biden. President Trump has always stood for law and order, and protecting the Constitution.

The Post also reported, citing people whove spoken to him, that Trump has remarked in recent private conversations that hed like to use the Justice Department to go after his enemies, including former members of his administration like Bill Barr and Gen. Mark Milley.

Project 2025 lays out a plan to purge non-Trump loyalists from the federal government and deploy the military to "crush his opponents", which includes but is not limited to political dissidents, the media, academia, atheists, immigrants, and members of the LGBT community..

And they clutch their pearls when we call them fascists.

We're not allowed to be deployed as law enforcement.

That would be literal Civil War 2 if they tried to implement it. Even the SCOTUS might not be willing to get in the literal crossfire to act as human shields for Trump. I'd hope anyway.

Also raises questions about Tuberville's hold on military promotions. A Senate-confirmed Flag Officer owes their position to the Constitution, not any individual. A Flag Officer in an acting role, not so much. (Officers in acting positions don't have the full authority of Senate-confirmed ones though.)

A first Trump term was devastating and will take years to recover from if we ever do. A second one would end the country.

All officers owe their allegiance to the Constitution.

We're not beholden to the man.

For officers in the Army, this is their oath:

"I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."

The enlisted oath is similar, but we oblige ourselves to obey the (legal, moral, ethical) orders of the President and of the officers appointed above us.

I remember during the Obama years where anyone that wasn't a hard right wing voter thought the Republicans were done in the long term. Unless they adapted and changed their views, they'd lose any hope of being elected again within a couple decades. Turns out they adapted, but just went straight to fascism support instead of moderating their viewpoints.

We're sworn to the Constitution, not Trump.

Not in any way to disagree with you here or your previous post. My concern is that rather than a GEN Milley, we have a GEN Flynn next time. I wouldn't trust that type of general to uphold their oath vs. following a man.

I read some polls now and I just shake my head. I know that the GOP has waged a diabolical, decades long propaganda/lies campaign that has (very sadly) effectively brainwashed a sizable chunk of the country. I know the GOP is utterly corrupt and willing to lie about anything and engage in voter suppression to keep power. And I even know that Joe Biden is not the most inspiring candidate.

But at some point, the electorate in this country I love so much has to stop being so stupid and easily manipulated. Trump and MAGA have been so obviously corrupt and evil since day one. Trump has been screaming exactly who he is since well before he entered politics, and his cult has been scary and cheering obvious fascism for a long time.

If we cant manage to at least keep the obvious criminal and death cult away from power at the ballot box, in the face of utterly transparent GOP lies, this country will have earned the hellscape that will be a Trump second term.

Anyone could see this coming in 2016, it is still obvious to see now, and the US electorate still votes with a collective head where the sun dont shine. It is ridiculous.

This is the real reason for Tuberville holding up the promotions of high ranking officers. Last time when he tried this during the George Floyd protests the military told him to fuck off. If Tuberville can hold things up till a Trump admin they can fill those spots with chuds like in the vein of Flynn who absolutely will follow those orders.
