Ok CE, today sucked.

Around 1pm today, at an engagement party for my cousin, I started developing a stomach cramp that soon had me on an ambulance on my way to the ER. Turned out to be a kidney stone that had me sobbing uncontrollably for hours and it took three treatments of morphine before I could get comfortable.

I was discharged after getting some antibiotics and pain killers and Im waiting for the damn thing to pass, but lord have mercy it was by far the most painful thing I had ever experienced. I couldnt get comfortable and it felt like I was stabbed in the kidneys. Just awful. (And Ive had a cracked rib and a dislocated knee beforethis was so much worse.) So now, no more Ice Tea or green vegetables apparently, and I eat salad every day.

So I thought Id ask you guys to share yours. Call it a coping mechanism. Anyone ever have one? Or something similar?

Physically probably gallbladder stones or needing to get a root canal. But my scariest situation was when I nearly died from my first allergic reaction earlier this year. I was in Chemo for Cancer that came back. When you have chemo, all the drugs are experimental as you've never taken them before. I ended up having a reaction to a drug that was used to mix IV bags. IV medication comes in as a solid and has to be mixed with something to make it a liquid. The solution they used to mix it with ended up nearly offing me twice.

It's funny, I can be poked with needles, break various bones in my body, rip all the tendons in my foot not once but twice, but its an allergy attack that scares me the most.

Gout.

I thought my toe was broken at first, but it just kept getting worse and worse. Even the air blowing across my big toe was hell.

I dealt with that one by bootstrapping it.

The second time it came back, i went to a dr to get a confirmation. It was gout in fact.

Since then i changed the diet and lost a lot of weight and havent had an issue since.

Two occasions, but they were separated by so many years that I don't really recall which was more painful.

First over a decade ago was a sudden stabbing pain in my chest. I drove myself to the hospital and puzzled the doctors until they determined that I had a spontaneous pneumothorax. In English, my lung partially and inexplicably collapsed. I was in pain for several weeks, but the issue was able to resolve itself without surgery.

Second, early this year, was a serious toothache that kept growing in pain. I manage to get an appointment with a dentist, he sees that it is root resorption and gets me an appointment with an endodontist that same day. In for a root canal, and the pain was gone by the time the novocaine wore off. Got a crown within a few weeks and no problems since.

Also kidney stones for me.

And yeah, don't let those 2 posters frighten you. At least for me, passing it was the easy part. All that happened was like a quick 1 second jolt of pain, some mild discomfort for a few more seconds, and then I felt fine. Which was nothing compared to the intense pain I felt while it was trying to make it's way to the bladder.

Lets see now:

Was it when I severly broke two of my fingers when I was 9 years old

Or was it all the dental pain I have had over the years including having three teeth out at once which I have had done twice because I never looked after my teeth

Or was it when I had suspected Sciatica a few years ago where I couldn't even get off my bed for weeks.

I can't decide.

In the fall of 2015, I started getting this pain on my right side. I'm usually someone that can tolerate pain, however this particular pain was so excruciating that it made me yell. When I get to the hospital and explained to the doctor my symptoms, he suspected that I may have had a kidney stone. They do a cat scan and didn't find anything. No kidney stone. No appendicitis. I haven't had that pain since then.

I took my snowblower to my moms house to clear off her driveway. I had ramps on the back of my SUV to roll the snowblower off. As I was rolling it off, one of the ramps shifted and the snowblower fell on top of me. I got an X-ray and they found lytic lesions on my pelvis. I had to go to an oncologist and he suggested a bone biopsy. I had to do a bone biopsy and the only numbing they could do was a local on the entry point. They drilled 3 holes in my pelvis and I felt every bit of that shit. I never had a kidney stone, and from the posters in here that shit must hurt a lot, but the bone biopsy was excruciating.

I've not had Kidney stones but I've heard they can be excruciating.

I have had all of the following though.
Acute Appendicitis that was bad enough that they called in the on call surgeon at 2am to remove it before it ruptured. Morphine did nothing to stop the pain and dilaudid also did nothing but it did knock me out.

This past February I ruptured dics in my neck which lead to replacement and fusion of c5 to c6 and c6 to c7. I could do nothing but lay on my floor zonked on out muscle relaxers for the 5 weeks it took to get diagnosed and scheduled for surgery.

Dry Socket from a bad Wisdom tooth removal that led to exposed nerve tissue that I just had to wait for 3 months for the gum tissue to grow over. Was taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 4 hours just to function at a minimal level. Like I would wake up at night when it was wearing off. The only time in my life I ever considered suicide, it was a more miserable experience than my Cancer and treatment.

Kidney stones. The abdominal pain is bad enough, but then you toss in the constant feeling of having to piss but can't, the intermittent hammer to the balls feeling, the puking, and then make it all last about 12-24 hours nonstop, and then get that razorblade for urine feeling for the next week after it's over with just makes it absolutely miserable.

I too know the pain of kidney stones. But mine are manageable with dandelion tea because mine are uric acid crystals, caused by gout. It tastes like shit but its better than stones.

Proctalgia Fugax. Basically internal rectal spasms. I'm on medication now that helps but before that it was ruining my life. Just started having pain in my rectum like being stabbed with a knife over and over. Lasted anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes. With very little time between episodes. I couldn't sleep worth a damn because it was worse at night. Easily the worst pain of my life and I've had gallstones, broke a wrist, been popped in the eye.
