He already works up to 60-70 hours a week sometimes. But he feels like he is "behind in life" and working fulfills him... Even though he's making little over 100k. And he's only 30. Telling me all that just to say that he won't be spending time hanging out with me and other friends because it's not productive. Lol

40 hour work week is not equivalent to a broken jaw. It's like if you tripped and fell, and then went on to cry about it. It's a tier worse than a first world problem in that people didn't even used to complain about it. We just have this new Gen of pampered babies.

The term 9-5 is a holdover from the past. A large portion of the workforce were unionized factory workers. And they had a 1 hour paid lunch break. So their lunch break was a part of their 8 hour work day.

Laborers in ancient Egypt worked 8 hours a day like we do now, and they had two days off per week, too, but also had way more holidays off than we do. They only worked an average of 131 days a year.

Free Romans only worked 6 hours a day, and only half the days of the year. They also had slave labor though, which is why the free Romans got to work so little, but still they were also the majority.

Medieval English peasants worked 8 hours a day, but only 150 days a year. 17th Century French laborers worked 10 hour days but only 185 days a year.

Native Americans worked 10-15 hours a week.
