So.... can we haz budget now?

Hahaha....of course not. Johnson's first order of business will be trying to ram through budgets that strip a ton of social services and such, that no sane person (non-Republican) would ever agree to.
Johnson has advocated hard for cuts to Social Security and Medicare in the past. I say let him put forward a budget that includes cuts to both of those and let's see how that works out for Republicans. My guess is not well.

He can advocate all he wants. Doesn't mean he'll get them

I find it hard to believe that the last remaining "sane" Republicans would go with it. They are still terrible, but not that far gone. And the Senate would not pass it and Biden would not sign it even if it did somehow get through. No where near a Supermajority to override a veto.

That's why so many are fearing another Republican shutdown over refusal to be reasonable.

Exactly. Those cuts would never go through. All it would do is give Democrats a hell of a talking point for 2024 if you had the guy who House Republicans unanimously voted in as Speaker trying to cut Medicare and Social Security.

The current Congress will end January 3rd, 2025; three days before the 2024 election results are certified. Democrats MUST win back the House. And not just the 5 seats needed for a majority. Dems need to win most, if not ALL of the 22 toss-up seats in 2024.

They won't. People have let me down since they elected 45. Pretty sure democracy is probably just ogre.

I'll still vote, but pessimistically

Oh I hope he tries.

The senate will kill that shit. Hell the swing district republicans in the house will kill it.

But it will hurt those who vote for it and the party as a whole.

What would be even funnier is if they did the single subject bill and start with Social Security and see what the votes are.

Make financial decisions with the assumption that social security won't exist when you're elderly. if it still does, then great you're totally set, if it doesn't....you're prepared.

What that means in practice is beyond doing everything you can to own your own home, no matter how small or crappy it is... divest yourself as much as possible from the economy. Save feverishly, cook everything at home, minimize your entertainment spending, don't travel.... Just put as little money into the economy as possible. Not only will it help you save up money, it'll hurt the corporations and rich ass holes that perpetrated this upon us by cutting into their profits. Think of it as an act of peaceful rebellion. Young adults are doing it in China already, it's called the "lying flat" movement, and it's panicking their government.

Dems are heavily favored to win the house back ftr

A lot of the "tossups" really aren't and Rs have few to no actual offensive targets left. Redistricting has been something of a sledgehammer and NC isn't enough

The senate is rough though

At least Johnson ends the idea that moderate Republicans exist in the House. The people opposed to Jordan were opposed because he's a gross person, not for ideological reasons.

I think they just caved like we always knew they would. In the end, no functioning government is exactly what the crazies want, so there was no way they would ever be the ones to give in. The spineless ones on the other hand still think they are on the side of democracy.

Narrator: They are not on the side of democracy.

He's certainly a great representative of Republicans ideals. Wants a nationwide abortion ban, thinks gay sex should be illegal, thinks prayer will stop mass shootings. Can only hope this hurts them when it's time to vote.
