Paying someone $18/hr to do that will always be more economical. always.

I've done that exact job for way under $18 an hour (although it was 20 years ago).

Having a robot technician beats paying salaries and insurance for 10 non technicians to move boxes around all day.

I'd like to see this robot modified to be mobile for deliveries too so truck drivers can just send the robot off to deliver the package instead of having to get attacked by dogs.

Not only that, it can stay on for 16hrs without breaks. While a human would take two 15min breaks and a lunch, then go home after home after 8 hours a single robot can work 16hrs. 2 humans back-to-back will work 14hrs factoring breaks. It doesn't need water breaks either

True, it is quite slow. And I wish the boxes had been all over the place; instead they came in walls that could fall on you at any time. One of the guys I worked with took four gallons of paint to the head.

Good point. If I saw a pitbull, I would like the option of sending that robot in.

Yeah, I've worked unloading at Target before. It stuck out to me immediately how neatly the boxes on that truck were stacked. That is not the way they arrive at the store. Even if the argument is that they'll be stacked neatly by a robot at the DC they're going to shift around in transit, particularly if the trailer isn't full. Those boxes were also fairly uniform in size. The sizes and shapes of boxes we'd get on our trucks vary a lot more than that.

Cool but slow most distribution centers won't use this for that alone, some places like Amazon desperately need fast workers they rush the shit out of your ass in places like that

Lol nah. It'll be happening but this is still early stage and the vast majority of warehouses out there aren't even close to modern enough to handle it

It might come to a few new ones that crop up but nothing that really matters and it'll likely be used a supplement and not a replacement

Ehh we said that about automated checkouts like a decade ago but now places like Walmart have completely replaced cashiers, minus one "overseerer" for a set number of checkouts.

Pretty bad comparison since those cashiers didn't lose their job they just do something else in the store

Advances in technology happen lightning fast when a breakthrough happens. Just look at AI art, voice, and writing programs. This is the beginning model of robot but for sure they can improve it dramatically in less than a year

This is only the beginning.

Plus, new standards will come into place to make the boxes more standard.
