Quitting smoking is worth it. You'll be helping yourself and will save tons of money. It's rough quitting at first, but it gets better. I still had to be around lots of smokers and having a toothpick in my mouth helped.

I used to think it couldnt be that bad. It wasnt until I tried to go a day without coffee for the first time in 20+ years that I got what addiction was, and thats nothing compared to a nicotine addiction.

Think of your health, and how much money you'll save quitting. Think of what else you'd rather have that you can use that money for.

Congrats on your first day, I'm sure it isn't easy, but if you want this then you'll make it happen. Remember that every time you get the urge, you're better without it. Accountability helps too.

I keep trying to tell my gf she's headed down that path with caffeine. She seems to believe it's nothing serious, but she insists she feels like shit until she has her coffee every day... and she doesn't even eat breakfast. Coffee alone is not. fucking. breakfast. It's not healthy. And the money she spends on coffee she doesn't even finish, like, literally ever, and all the sugar in that Dunkin/Starbucks garbage. It's no good to rely on that.

You're going to have a lot more money pretty soon. Money you can use to spoil your boy instead of spoiling your health when you're trying to enjoy your old age watching the man your boy has grown into. Keep that in mind.

The intense cravings and moody stuff will diminish with time, and the little things you love about cigarettes will be replaced by the little things you love about other pastimes.

Also, while everybody's journey in quitting is different, I'm a big proponent of cold turkey. It forces it to be about willpower, and removes the avenue of excuses for why you're not tapering off like you planned. When I quit, close to 20 years ago, I did it while I still had some. I didn't allow myself that "when I finish this pack" out because I knew that opens the door to keep moving the posts.

I'll say that you've already won half the battle. You have a genuine, legitimately good reason for quitting. You want to be there to watch your kid grow up. That's more than most people can say when they try to quit, and it's unbelievably helpful.

Another thing I found helpful when quitting is that, whenever you have a craving, remind yourself that you already made the decision. You already weighed the pros and cons, and you decided to quit. Don't let yourself re-evaluate that. You made your choice, and it's not up for another discussion.

And my last bit of advice is to not just let your friends/family know you're quitting. But to actively tell them to point out when you're being grumpy or getting short-tempered. Have them remind you in the moment that "hey, this isn't who you want to be, and this is the reason you wanted to stop." Not only does it give them some agency when it comes to dealing with your mood swings during the transition (which you almost certainly will have), but it also gives you an immediate reminder of your reason for quitting. Which, again, makes a world of difference when it comes to sticking with it.

Good shit TC. Yesterday was 2 weeks without nicotine for me. Imma be honest, it still sucks major ass. Mostly the absence of what was a habit for 10 years now though, more so than the physical addiction

Really sucks because like you, I really enjoyed smoking and didn't wanna quit. It feels good and idk about cool but it definitely looks sexy

But I got a kiddo to think about now and nicotine doesn't mix well with HRT either so it was time to quit. We'll get through it together homie

The closest member of my family that smoked was my grandfather. He didn't quit until he was about in his 70s. He still ended up being diagnosed with lung cancer at either 89 or 90.

What I found interesting is that actor/comedian George Burns smoked cigars all the time and he lived to be 100.

Quit vaping for the 2nd time about a week ago. Having the nic gum on hand definitely helped. Basically just went straight to a piece instead anytime the urge hit me to run out and get a vape.

First 2 days were rough, probably did like 4-5 pieces each day. Then down to 1-2 a day for a couple days. Now havent felt the need for a piece in a couple days.
