To go along with that but it is now generally taken that Jesus was born in around March/April not December.

There are clues in The Bible regarding when Jesus was born. For instance Shepards watched their flocks by night. Well you do not do that in late Autumn/early Winter. Also it is taken that the shepards did that because it was Lambing season which only happens in the Spring.

The reason why December 25th was chosen to celebrate Jesus birth was because in December the Pagans/Romans had their festivities like Saturnalia and the celebrating of the Winter Solstice so the Christians/Catholics were feeling left out so they decided to make December 25th Jesus birthday so they to could join in the festivities.
In the Nordic countries, Christmas is celebrated the 24th.
It originates from the Middle ages, before the mechanical clock. In the Nordic countries, a new day started when it became dark outside. So the 25th started when it became dark on the 24th.
And then the tradition have continued.

Getting a real Christmas tree is good for the environment since all those trees growing in tree farms remove a lot of carbon from the atmosphere.

You have to dispose of it properly though. The best way is to turn it into mulch and a lot of cities have recycling programs that will do just that. Another good way is to simply throw it in your backyard or in the woods where it can decompose naturally.

The things not to do are to burn it, since that releases the trapped carbon back into the air, or take it to the landfill because if it's covered up and not getting oxygen as it decomposes it'll produce methane.

Here is one for everyone.

Have you ever eaten something that is Banana flavoured and thought to yourself "this doesn't taste like Banana"!

Actually it does taste like Banana but a different type of Banana from the ones we eat.

I'll explain, Up until the mid 1950's the main type of cultivar of Banana exported around the world was a variety called the Gros Michel (Big Mike) but in the 1950's it was almost virtually wiped out by a fungal disease called Panama disease.

So in the 1960's Banana plantations changed to growing the Cavendish Banana which is what we eat today.

Both types of Bananas have a different flavour and texture to one another.

So even though we have been eating the Cavendish Banana for decades food companies have never changed to changing their Banana flavour to mimic the Cavendish and it is still based on the Gros Michel.

So basically we are eating Banana flavour just a different type of Banana.

Black Friday is not necessarily the best time to buy the stuff you need. Sure, the best time to get most electronics is on BF but non-BF sale prices of other products at other times of the year can be even cheaper. A few examples of things best bought at other times of the year are as follows:

Clothing - At the end of a season
Large furniture items - Memorial, Labor, Presidents and Independence Day
Jewelry - In the few weeks after Christmas and Valentine's Day
Car - Late summer on a Wednesday, at the end of the day

I recently requested a name change on my account. I used to be "indica" but felt I grew out of that name a long time ago.

Here's a fun fact: Ketchup used to not have tomatoes at all and was actually a fish sauce. The word originally comes from the Malay word kecap which then becomes the Chinese (Hokkien) word k-chiap: "brine of pickled fish or shellfish"

Some basketball trivia:

In 1953 the Baltimore Bullets made the playoffs with a record of 16-54

14 different players have a recorded 5x5 game, though blocks and steals weren't recorded before 1972 so it's very likely some others did it. Hakeem Olajuwon has by far the most with 6, and the only other player with more than one is Andrei Kirilenko.

AC Green holds the record for consecutive games played at 1192. Mikal Bridges holds the active iron man streak, having never missed a game in his NBA career.

The record for games played in a single season is 88.

HUMMINGBIRDS. I believe this but copied from a site about gardening

Birding experts Kenn and Kimberly Kaufman explain. Its true. When we look at an Annas or ruby-throated hummingbird, for example, were not really seeing green pigment on their back feathers or red pigment on their throat feathers. Instead, those are structural colors. The feather itself is just dull and dark, but its covered with transparent layers of particular shapes that operate like a prism. They bend the light and reflect back only certain colors. This is why the colors can seem to change, too. Those red throat feathers may look orange, gold or even green, depending on the angle of the light.

AC Green holds the record for consecutive games played at 1192. Mikal Bridges holds the active iron man streak, having never missed a game in his NBA career.

Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive game streak September 6, 1995, playing in his 2,131st consecutive game. When Ripken's streak started on May 30, 1982, most of his teammates on that 1995 team were in elementary school. Ripken's streak is more than twice that of third place holder Everett Scott (1,307, which is still the National League record set between 1916-1925). It's also believed that during his streak, Ripken played 8,264 consecutive innings, though MLB does not recognize that as an official record.
The current MLB consecutive games leader is Matt Olson with 438 straight.
Also, the longest professional baseball game lasted 33 innings and a 2-month suspension to complete (Started April 18, 1981, suspended at 4:07am on April 19, completed June 23). Guess who played every inning of that game....
