And if you use the "portable" (which it's debatable if it qualifies) sequence, I guess GBC would follow the VB, and that might be a bigger comeback.

It's had a good run, but if Nintendo wants to keep the ability to support 3rd party games it better release some upgraded hardware soon. 6 years is well into the milking it phase when it comes to consoles and the lack of performance is glaring at this point. Going from an AAA PC game back to a Switch game is nauseating.

Theres a decent chance that the Switch could surpass both the DS and the PS2. They effectively need to sell 25 million more units, not outside the realm of possibility given that the machine still sells well and a replacement is undoubted at least a year+ away.

The Wii U was brimming with new and original games that couldn't be found anywhere else and the Switch is 70% ports that run worse than the original that came out 10 years ago on weaker hardware for full price. The original games are mostly slop for an audience Nintendo knows they don't have to try to please, and the Virtual Console is somehow STILL less comprehensive than the Wii U's even though the Switch is older now than the Wii U was when the Switch came out. It is one of my least favorite Nintendo consoles period.

The Wii U's problem was always terrible marketing and an underwhelming game selection. The hardware itself was fine, and it was reasonably priced compared to other consoles at the time.

It needed way stronger launch titles and it needed a better batch of exclusives. It also needed a better name, because tons of consumers thought the Wii U was just an updated Wii or an add-on and not a completely new console.

It definitely started that way. Then, Nintendo cut the price by 30% and doubled down on game development.
Why Nintendo didn't even bother to attempt to salvage Wii U the same way they turned 3DS around, is a great mystery.

Xbox went from about 26 million to about 80 million with the 360.

The Wii U sold about 13 million and I think the Switch recently broke 100 million.

Nintendo has enough cash reserves to survive something like 50 straight years of Wii-U like financial failures before they're out of money. People who said Nintendo are done just have no idea what they're talking about.

edit (this article is from 2012):
https://www.gamesradar.com/nintendo-doomed-not-likely-just-take-look-how-much-money-its-got-bank/
Check this out for a completely not boring financial fact about Nintendo: Nintendo has 6.7 ($10.5) billion in the bank and, even if making big losses every year, that considerable nest egg would keep the company going until 2052.

Here's the exact quote taken from a feature in the latest issue of the UK's Nintendo Gamer magazine: "Buried in reams of financial data is the revelation that Nintendo have 812.8 billion Yen (6.7/$10.5 billion) in the bank - enough for it to take a 20 billion Yen loss (163/$257 million) every year until 2052. Then there's almost 469 billion Yen (3.8/$6.0 billion) held in premises, equipment and investments. When that runs out - we're in the year 2075 by this point - they've got some of the most valuable intellectual property in gaming to sell off before the company goes out of business."

Weird how people try and say that graphics isn't everything yet that is literally the only way that something is AAA in their eyes.
