I've never heard of Antarctica as being the biggest. My guesses would have been Africa or Asia.

Its always been Asia by a wide margin. Antarctica is far down the list. Definitely doesnt feel like a Mandela Effect to me.

Anyone who thought it was Antarctica probably did because Mercator was the first map projection they ever saw. It makes Antarctica look frickin' massive.

What annoys me is the widespread conspiracy to promote the Southern Ocean, which does not exist and is just southern bits of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.

I actually did think Asia

Antarctica was my second choice, surprised by how small it actually is. But then most maps I see only show part of it so I guess my brain just filled it the blanks with stuff that wasn't there >_>

I was taught Africa was the largest, but I always thought that Asia was bigger. But honestly the Mandela Effect is legitimately making people stupider. One of those comments on that reddit thread was wondering why both they and their mom had the same wrong answer. Like there's no possible way the mom was wrong, and taught her child wrong too. No one just accepts that they had wrong information.

There, yes, but the map I saw hanging on the wall in most classrooms had the top and and bottom of that cut off and when that's done it doesn't seem as big.

When people talk about the Mandela effect, what they actually mean is that they were taught wrong or that their memory is just wrong. Maybe both.

No Mandela got abducted by aliens and implanted with their Overlord. He came back as if alive again to steal parts of time from us.

Some of the Mandela things I get like yeah -stein is a much more common way to spell a name than -stain so Berenstein would make sense and you were a barely-literate child when you saw the books. But this one and some others are just like "no you're just wrong about this"

I'm more surprised that Africa is second biggest, but what I'm remembering is that the Mercator projection is fairly OK at showing the top 9 or so countries by size. I'm also surprised at how big Greenland actually is and how much land area Indonesia has.

Except for the Berenstein Bears. If Nelson thinks he can get away with that one there will be a reckoning.

I think i was always taught that Antarctica was the largest singular land mass surrounded by water. Like basically an island. Australia being 2nd. Couldnt remember if Asia or Africa was the biggest continent.
