Its always been Asia by a wide margin. Antarctica is far down the list. Definitely doesnt feel like a Mandela Effect to me.

Anyone who thought it was Antarctica probably did because Mercator was the first map projection they ever saw. It makes Antarctica look frickin' massive.

This was definitely the case for me as a kid. Learning about different map making techniques blew my mind back then.

I find it weird that europe and asia are counted as different continents. I can understand africa given how relatively small it's conection point is, but europe and asia are connected pretty much across their entire length. It's like saying the US and canada are two different continents.

I had been thought Asia was the largest.

I do have a Mandela effect memory, but its of something that would have happened in either 2009 or 2010.

isn't it that Europe and the West separates them but Asia does not and says only 6 continents?

I was born in 76 and growing up in the up in the 80s I know we were taught Asia was the largest. We knew Antarctica was down the list a ways.

I think the confusion probably comes the fact that they always told us it was the largest continent with no permanent human habitation. Only some permanent scientific stations that are manned part of the year on a rotating basis.

I think over time people misremembering the clarification about the no permanent human habitation part and just remembering the largest continent part. But I remember this distinction clearly.

The funniest part about that is that there's a bunch of deleted comments because that sub doesn't allow people to argue against the existence of the Mandela effect.

My mom always taught me that Africa was the biggest but only appears smaller on maps because the white man who creates the maps doesn't want it to be known that Africa is actually the biggest continent of all. In the true map, the story was that Africa is so big that either "America could fit in it 10x" or " All continents can fit in Africa". One those, or maybe even both lol.

I only learned about Asia being #1 a couple years ago. When I told my mom, she said "they" have successfully rewritten history. Or, "His story".
