I need more practice drawing fur and hair. This was a lazy attempt at it, but I've rarely pulled it off in a satisfying way. Also snow I guess, but that comes up less frequently and wasn't a big focal point here.

I'd be down for that many new pig pokemon. I could draw a Chonk form for each type if there were enough days left in Chonktober. Then again, if you counted Zombie Chonk as ghost type...Angel and Devil as fairy and dark.......and Spider Chonk as bug type...maybe there's still time! :0

Snow Miser. I'm battling a fly so I feel like this may be lower effort than usual

just after posting I managed to defeat it by turning all the lights off except my laptop, and blasting it with air freshener when it was drawn to me. Now to see if the air freshener messes up my keyboard...

Eww, don't look at it, it's too weird. I'm just not a powerful enough artist to envision an interesting composition of a spherical character somehow breaking chains, so I made him a buff humanoid.

Chains is kind of a tough theme. Whatever you end up doing with them, you hafta commit to drawing all those links. And sometimes a prompt or subject just doesn't speak to you. :/ It's all good though. I think there are still a few fun ones ahead.

Day 22: Scratchy

I didnt know what they meant by scratchy, so I just did a scratchy drawing. It let me do whatever I wanted, so its a nice palate cleanser.

I originally had the concept of a hand made of stars holding his shoulder as a more 'celestial' theme, but then I considered the idea that I likely wouldn't pull that off well. This one might actually be something I'd like to revisit, I feel like I could almost make this look good if I made more adjustments. The hair is pretty shoddy, and I'm not used to having eyes at that angle, so they're likely off. There's other issues, but I like the concept at least.

The right frog is supposed to be having its front half emerging from the water at the shoreline. The little fly is saying "Well shit"

Its rough but fuck it I did a couple things almost halfway decent for my skill level and I gotta start loving my glacial progress instead of hating that I am not at the summit yet.

Haven't been able to think of anything decent for dangerous, it feels like such a vague concept. You could do a lot with it. I'm not exactly super high effort in some (or most) of my things, but somehow this one would feel lame to completely half heart. So I spent some time coloring someone's sketches for fun.

Well I was kinda bored and finished it. Might be mistakes in there. I didn't want to shade anything, flats were easier and harder to mess up. Something about the top right feels off, otherwise I mostly like it.

Honestly, this piece isn't really involved enough to justify merging the two days, but I've just been out of it for whatever reason. This lets me be caught up enough, and I'm hoping it's evident how both prompts are related to this.

I feel like it's some giant (sand?) worm type creature that I've seen before, but I couldn't find a good picture of anything like it with a closed mouth.

Backgrounds are for chumps. Real men draw characters in voids with zero context. Kinda looks more like a dog or a cow than a boar in some spots, but whatevs.

Ah, okay. Wasn't sure if it was from a particular thing or if it was an original design. It looks like its mouth is closed around a head, so success.

Why did I draw like twenty of them? I coulda done one and called it a day. It isn't even a cohesive composition. This took so long, even when trying to go fast and loose with it.

Also, super quick bonus sparkly diamond pig cuz I was playing around with my Celestial Lechonk earlier. It felt dumb to try to pass it off as a second day's drawing though.

Day 30: Rush

As with most things, I'm not really used to drawing 3 people in the same image, let alone them in a semi-action pose and on different distances from the camera. I screwed up the one in the forefront pretty evidently, but I did okay on the other two, I think. I think the expressions are pretty good, and help say what is supposed to be happening, to a point.

It lives on the volcanic island in Alola, secreting lava from glands under its eyes. This lava can be weaponized for self defense, but is primarily used to keep its skin clean and clear.

And that's my final Chonk. This was a fun twist on Inktober. Conforming to a single theme for the whole month both gives you direction for prompts where you'd otherwise be lost and also forces you to think creatively to find connections between the two prompts when they aren't necessarily related. Also, I actually really like how some of these came out. I experimented a little with painting in backgrounds and I think they came out purty. And I tried getting loose and goofy with some of the chonks, which is also fun but kinda hard to do somehow.

Anyway, that's enough blogfaqsing for now. Happy Inktober to those who observe and merry Halloween to the rest of you.

Very much appreciate you going through this topic with me. Even your lower effort ones (from what you said), were always great to see. Im impressed you kept with the theme so well. I feel like last year was probably better for me, in terms of putting in effort for each piece. But there were a few points where I tried some stuff I always avoided, so it was better than nothing. Still have one more day to do, but first this.

I agree. I was thinking about doing that all month lol. Then when I actually sat down to draw, the concept kinda drifted from flames to lava. I kept thinking of putting flames as the tip of its ears too, but that woulda looked weird without changing up the face. I did end up putting little flame designs on the ears and tail, but I think a flaming mohawk woulda still fit in pretty well.

I probably should've just messed around with the fire itself and ignored the other bit. Kind of a bleh ending, but so it goes. Now, as for the November thing... well lets see if that happens.

I like how you did the fire. The colors and varying line weight look cool. Nice job on the lighting, too. Congrats on another successful Inktober. :]

Day 1:

Reads right to left. Don't make comic pages very often, so I'm still not used to how pages look once they're exported

For self criticism sake... the pure black and white would be fine, but there's too much white space. It's being drawn in monochrome, but I should be able to use screentones to make a greyer sort of feeling. I also think a scratchier style would be preferable, sorta similar to the Darkside drawing, just with the digital pen tool. I'm also not great with my text bubble placement relative to the borders.

Ooh, is this all gonna be a continuous comic? I'm intrigued.

I don't think there's too terribly much white space. It's mostly just the first two panels that have any. Some extra little details would fill it in easily enough I'd imagine. Like some clouds or vines at the top. Or just shrinking the top panel and maybe swapping the bat and the second text box? Idk. I do really like the black and white look with all the solid shapes though.

I actually have an excuse for not getting this done last night, I left my house at like 8 AM and didn't get back until like 11 PM.

Day 3: All of them should be right to left by the way.

I didn't think to mention it specifically, but for the first page, I didn't bother to crop it at all, the program I'm using has guiding lines of sorts when drawing, and there are some that show where it would be 'cut' but it doesn't actually crop those out automatically when exported, I guess so it could be cut properly if printed. Not sure if there's an option for autocrops, but I've been doing it myself now. (Actually, I just looked, and it seems like there is).

Anyway, I wrote out the intro a couple of days ago, but I have something else planned (they're connected). I was just in the mood to write something more introductory and simple. There's still probably a page or two left of this intro. I feel like I'm more naturally experimental with these layouts than I was with Inktober, maybe that's a good sign. It'll probably be more standardized a bit later though. Just trying to see what looks decent and what doesn't.

Edit: Also the writing feels kinda edgy lol, not sure how it'll come off when everything is done, assuming I get there.

Well I'm invested. I really love the look of these so far and I'm curious to see where it's going.

As an aside, while I was making the other pages from scratch, this one I had it laid out a good bit beforehand. Now that it's exported, I can see there's a lot of lines that are a bit off, but I'd rather just post now than fix and re-export. I'd like to make it a bit more obvious that she's sleeping on a pillow. The full thing used to be bigger, but this more constrained view is probably for the best.
