Every week we would get some lugnut posting a link to interview segment which is usually some person who is either too famous or too stupid to be in the regular panel.

And for some reason this would be misconstrued as him being a right wing extremist because it was out of context. So Ive pointed out that not only is he a liberal, but he is a very astute observer on politics and Donald Trump in particular.

Yeah, I don't like Maher because his political opinions aren't 100% aligned with my own.

That IS true, but the thing is, after Covid Maher seems to have lost his mind and become bitter and hates the left for renouncing him. He still hates Trump but it seems like he's all but ready to otherwise be a Republican out of spite. In the end he never got married and really just seems like a bitter old man hateful at everyone.

That's also the reason he pushed to get his show back more then the other Talk show hosts...he does not seem to have anything else going on while the others have there families.

Bill always had some issues and stupid views and has always been friendly with some reprehensible types (Ann Coulter), but within the past few years he's just become the worst. I used to watch his show back in the day and again, he always had some questionable views, but he wasn't...this.

I think it was covid plus "cancel culture". He, like many other lower grade stand up comedians of a certain era, had their brains broken because people called out their tired jokes and stereotypes that were also offensive. They couldn't handle their work being criticized and see comedians as this persecuted group.

Maher is just a grifter. He'll parrot absolutely any political stance that will make him the most money. Come next year He'll be villifying Trump again if he feels like its the best way to go about it

Folks, Maher praising DeSantis' Covid policy - in which DeSantis lied through his teeth, falsified records, hand-picked a quack Surgeon General who among other things refused to mask up around a cancer survivor and had to be ejected from the premises, swatted a state employee who was trying to report Covid numbers accurately, screamed at kids for masking up, bullied the Special Fucking Olypmics over mask mandates, and got thousands of Floridians needlessly killed for the sake of elevating his clout on the national stage - is not merely a difference of political opinion.

Maher was a liberal and seen as kind of a rock star back in the 90s/00s when conservatism dominated the culture. He was an atheist when that wasn't mainstream, pro-gay marriage when that wasn't mainstream, pro-marijuana when that wasn't mainstream and criticized the Iraq War and W Bush heavily. That's where he got most of his goodwill.

But that was his younger days. He hasn't really changed or moved any more left since I guess early 2010s. Liberals have a bunch of new fights now, ones he seems to think are "a step too far." And he's grown to really, really hate young people.

I don't agree he's conservative or alt-right, but he is very much a liberal that was left behind and he sees no reason to update or change. So he's basically a crotchety old man who yells at clouds now. Plus there was Covid which broke his brain a lot.

He has allowed himself to become a tool of the alt-right to maintain an audience. He has no strongly held beliefs or convictions apart from loving money.

Ann Coulter has been a guest since the PI days, he supports PETA and its <redacted> founder, he gave the worst of the New Atheist cockroaches a voice and still agrees with just about every vile thing Dawkins and Harris say. He only challenged Milo when Milo badmouthed Lena Dunham (which is ironic because Milo is just like her in many ways.) Maher has always had a problem with realizing that just because he agrees with somebody on something, that doesn't make their extreme takes correct.

I think over time Maher went from, being a pretty standard lib-democrat who was outspoken as an atheist, to being a right wing curmudgeon more because he was seduced by the wealth and status existing in their proximity.

This seems to happen a lot in mainstream media too. The amount of wealth floating around the right wing activist and political grift-o-verse is overwhelming compared to the left and has tempted many to crossover to the dark side.

I think there's a pipeline of people who were really outspoken about atheism in the 00s who wound up being "anti-PC" or "anti-woke" crusaders.

But Maher's deal is that he enjoyed the cultural cachet of being the leftest guy in the room by being anti-Bush and pro-weed 20 years ago; that's not the case anymore and he resents those to his left for calling into question his cool guy credentials.

They bitched about it and finger pointed but no one was all edging a mass voter fraud conspiracy. If Maher was a liberal he wouldnt stand for the normalization of election denial. Ryudo, standing up to election denial is not a far-left position.

The difference isn't that people on the left weren't also complaining.....the difference is that they had reason to and still do. There are literally still warrants out for the arrest of Russians involved in election interference charges. Not to mention a celebration immediately after for Yevgeny Prigozhin who was tasked with putting together the attacks and troll farms leading up to it. Not to mention publicly asking asking them by you know who to hack the dnc for way more than just the opponents emails.
