Is the game expecting me to care that the children were murdered? Fuck them, they were awful to me, why the hell would I care that they died?

Other than that, its alright so far. Combat is a bit too easy but then again Im still pretty early on. Playing the PS4 complete edition on PS5.

Yeah so far it's the most middle of the road, safest, most predictable, serviceable, inoffensive, don't-take-a-stance-on-anything, baby's-first-story writing I've EVER seen in a video game. I'm not even disliking the game, but everything that's happened so far is so painfully obvious, and Aloy just instinctively knows everything that's happening to make sure the player knows what's happening.

Yeah I'm getting some like Mary Sue vibes from Aloy. She sees a recording of herself, next to a recording of who's most likely her mother, and an image of a DNA strand between them with a 99.5% match, making it extremely obvious to the player who the woman is, but also for some reason Aloy understands it even though she has no idea who this person is, has never seen them before, said nothing to indicate that she could be Aloy's mother, and Aloy presumably has no idea what DNA is and probably can't read English, but she looks at this for like 1 second and instantly understands it. Yeah okay.

The current day story isn't very interesting, but the story you piece together about the past is great.

Also, the game was better for me because it takes place where I live.

Been playing Lies of P... it's pretty solid but I'm having a hard time nailing down block timing

As for Horizon I thought it was fun but suffers from open-world bloat and I was ready to be finished playing it about 2/3rds of the way through it

Honestly Lies of P kinda had a perfect release window. Few weeks after Armored Core so Souls fans eagerly waiting for that Elden Ring DLC who finally found out AC wasn't gonna scratch that itch could give something else a try

That was a thing? People actually thought AC was going to be a Soulslike?

I want FromSoft to do another Lost Kingdoms, or at least remake them so I can legitimately play the sequel. That game was a pretty good time.

Yes. There were was a subset of people that went into AC6 thinking it was going to be Elden Ring with mechs.

People are silly. Heck, I don't think I'd even want a soulslike with mechs. Soulslikes rely on rapid, precise movement, which is blatantly at odds with giant robots as a fundamental concept. A soulslike with robots should be more on a human/android scale.

Yeah, that's what works: You can absolutely have a sci-fi setting with robots and lasers if you have a main character who's like Samus (for example, though as an aside Metroid would actually be a pretty awesome setting for a soulslike), since then you do have a character where it feels sensible to move quickly and precisely. Giant robots, though, are inherently clunky and have significantly more momentum than human-sized ones. Games like AC still don't exactly handle that realistically, but they at least try.

I mean, to be fair, especially with the state of modern gaming, you can't exactly go into FFXVI expecting it to be like I, VI, or X. Nor can you go into Assassin's Creed Valhalla expecting it to be like AC II: Brotherhood or IV: Black Flag. I can almost understand people expecting the sixth entry of a game series to somehow be different than past iterations. That said? They could still have seen some gameplay footage of VI and compare it to previous games' footage, but we all know that puts pressure on the average consumer to look things up and think about it before they spend their money; well, more than listening to someone else's opinion on the matter. <_<

I really need to work on my block timing. I keep hitting it too late, or I'm being to greedy with my attacks and don't leave myself enough time to block and I'll get hit mid-attack. Currently getting my ass kicked by this aggressive survivor in a small ass room. I'm enjoying the game and the combat but there's *something* with the combat that I'm not getting

I managed to take him down. I might've shot myself in the foot with my P-Organ Quartz selections... I was able to consistently dodge behind human enemies and deal that fury attack. Used it on the Mad Donkey and The Atoned (unfortunately didn't handle the dialog for The Atoned properly lol)

Chose the double dodge P-Organ upgrade and now my timing dodging behind humans is all off. I'm admittedly mediocre at Souls-likes but I'm having more difficulty than usual with the combat in this game. Still enjoying it. Thankfully it feels much more forgiving than proper Souls titles (so far) I'm well into Moonlight Town right now

More productively, upgrading your dodge sounds like it risks falling into the same trap as Adaptability in DS2. It's pretty easy to get accustomed to a given dodge timing and iframe window, so if an upgrade changes that, it can be hard to adjust. That said, it's not like there's no precedent for that, with the various weight classes and the Dark Wood Grain Ring in DS1, so I'm sure you'll get used to it.

Hadn't played any Lies of P since Monday due to the FFXIV patch. Picked it back up today. I kept hearing that The King of Puppets is the hardest boss, it will filter me, it's impossible. I did it on my first try lol. I honestly find the elite monsters that don't respawn to be harder and more intimidating than the bosses. At least so far.
