He could only visit them (not sure if he stayed long enough for it to be living with them) because of how he interpreted Sirius's order, Sirius could have summoned him back and forbid contact with them at any time.

Kreacher knew too much so they couldn't leave him unsupervised. Harry didn't want him around so he was sent to Hogwarts to serve in the kitchens with the other elves. Harry owned Kreacher from then on but didn't actively use him that much until Book 7, where they developed a better relationship and Kreacher began serving Harry as master and servant. And he wasn't paid like all house elves are unpaid so yes Harry is essentially a slave owner.

lol, Sanderson is a horrible counter-example, his books are good but the effects he creates with his strict magic system is exactly the opposite of what Rowling is going for. You can tell Sanderson's books were written by somebody with a scientific mind, he sounds like he's the tutorial of a video game as he describes how everybody is using their magic. It feels cold whereas HP is going for whimsical. You feel like the world is alive in harry potter, but in sanderson's books you can literally hear sanderson's voice trying to explain it to you. It takes me out of them TBH but he is good at writing climaxes and intrigue from a plot perspective

She was fired actually (given clothes) and that's why she became an alcoholic. She was taken in by Dumbledore and started working in the kitchens at Hogwarts. Dobby was also working there and he keeps an eye on her.

They can not only do magic, it's suggested they're better at some kinds of magic than wizards since they can warp in and out of places even if there's magic preventing it. Iirc not even Hogwarts can prevent a house elf from simply warping onto the premises. The wizards don't take them seriously because elves but it's pointed out in the books that it's a severely underestimated ability and wizards underestimate the other races in general. They also don't need wands to do magic but wizards can't do magic without wands.

Dobby is happy and free, but actually extending that to the rest of "slave race" would require some systemic widescale change, which is a no no for Rowling

Rowling is a piece of shit for what she's espoused, but I think people try really hard to alter history in terms of the books. People act like they're terrible now. They're not. They're just as good.

The house elf thing is problematic, but it was more ignorance than actual malice. I'm pretty sure she based them on The Elves and the Shoemaker where a cobbler starts on shoes, goes to bed, and wakes up to find them complete. It's just a magic elf that cleans things and she didn't put too much thought into how it looks.

The goblin thing is also kinda eye-rolling to me. She very obviously was not intentionally going for anti-Semitic tropes. Like when Hogwarts Legacy came out, people made a big to-do about a goblin horn actually being a shofar and that the year referenced in its description was the year of an anti-Semitic attack in Hamburg. And then I looked it up and the horn looking nothing like a shofar and while, there was an attack in that year, there's also an anti-Semitic attack in virtually every year because people are garbage.

I apologize, I made the mistake of engaging in this dialogue instead of pointing out that something else being bad doesn't make Rowling better or that there probably isn't massive overlap between trans-friendly Harry Potter fans and people watching American football.

My daughter was sucker punched by a boy who lived down the street hurling transphobic/homophobic slurs, while people like JKR shout to the world on her platform with words that paint trans girls as predators.

Now, I don't know if that particular boy even knows who she is or cares about Harry Potter, but other people in the neighborhood do. At least one of the teachers at the local school has her classroom absolutely infested with potter paraphernalia. At least some of the kids will undoubtedly be fascinated, maybe get hooked into some story or movie, and find out who is the author/creator. A person who is as we speak currently engaged in a years long campaign of hate speech and blood libel. They look up to this person. We can see people who like her in this very thread. It's disgusting.

People who are bigots and love Harry Potter positively revel in the fact that Rowling's transphobia is so dangerous and upsetting. That's why they make provocative statements about buying 20 copies of Hogwarts Legacy.

The people who feel guilt and distress over this are those who are not themselves transphobic.
