I still like the stories, but that will always be a problem for me. Oh yeah, and the cringey names she used for some characters, like the most stereotypical thing she could think of. The time travel stuff sucked too, especially when she had to have the time turner things destroyed a couple of books later so nobody would be asking why nobody was using them to stop Voldemort. There were other children's books and young adult books I preferred. I will say that the series peeked at Book 3 or 4 and it's all downhill from there, with book 7 being out and out bad. I struggled so hard to finish that book. One thing that particularly bothers me is how bad the magic system is for a book that's primarily about witches and wizards. The lack of a strict magic system is exactly part of why the world feels so magical in the first place. It feels like anything can happen and there's a sense of whimsy and spontaneity that IMO is part of why the book was so able to capture kids' imaginations so easily.
