https://www.reuters.com/science/zambia-find-shows-humans-have-built-with-wood-476000-years-2023-09-20/ I guess the wood is fossilized. Holy crap... is that like a game changer? It's before the commonly accepted advent of our species, but still in our ancestry. The big deal here is that ancient evidence of woodworking is usually indirect; we don't know just how complex their crafts were. For some deep time context, an article from 2001 talking about 1.5 million year old stone tools having traces of wood on them. So we've been carving up wood in some way for a long time, but the fitted logs are the basis of large structures. It's not certain at all, but the idea that pre-sapiens humans might've had, fuckin', log cabins is crazy. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/early-humans-had-woodwork/ --- evening main 2.4356848e+91 https://youtu.be/Acn5IptKWQU ... He told me that when I showed him a knife I'd found while fishing along the banks of a local river. It was a coca cola knife that he estimated to be from the 30s.
