After the usual mother/son and father/daughter etc. dances, one or both sets of parents also get a dance to themselves?

I don't remember ever seeing this at any weddings I've attended but apparently my mom and dad want to have a dance in the schedule at mine. They're not typically the kind of people that like to have all the attention on them in a big group, so I'm wondering if it's just a common traditional thing that I happen to be unaware of.

I havent seen it personally but usually you can be allowed to be flexible regarding dances, the odd thing about that type though is it doesnt really reflect either wedding partner

sometimes there is a everyone who has been married already dance and that may be a better fit?

Don't think so, and keep in mind that it's your wedding, not theirs. If you don't want them hogging the spotlight on YOUR day, you can tell them no.

Yeah, we're doing one of those already, which is part of the reason I was confused by the request.

I don't really care one way or the other - if anything I might appreciate the opportunity to have three or four quiet minutes off to the side with my wife-to-be without anyone looking at or talking to us. Just thought it was interesting.

Definitely not common but if your parents arent generally attention seekers its likely well intentioned. And yeah, its your wedding. Make sure your soon to be wife is cool with your parents doing that as well. If she isnt, nicely tell your parents no lol

Keep your guests in mind as well.

In my experience the reception always last longer than you expect and the pacing can be difficult to get right.

If it's going to happen you could consider having the parents 'kick off' the married person dance and then after 30-60 seconds the other married guests will be called to join them on the floor.

Yes! At my wedding.

We did the father/daughter dance, but my husband's parents had passed away so my mom and dad danced to "slow dancing, swaying to the music"

My husband and I also did our dance to "Never going to give you up" and rickrolled the wedding, and the dance with my father was to "White Wedding" so we were already having a silly reception.

I think I remember at least one wedding where after the parent/newlywed dance there was a short dance where it was both sets of parents and the newlywed couple dancing.
