Imo, I think not having a map or not being able to do a complete top down view of the board is way more detrimental to the mode than being able to see what is ahead would be. Like there hasn't been a moment where I've been like "oh cool glad I didn't see that coming" yet lol they should have just emulated Mario Party.

Also, kombos in this game are fucking hard. The timing is fucking crazy and trying to implement kameos into them is such a finger twister. SF6 feels way more fluid and cohesive. It's gonna take a lot of getting used to.

I'd imagine it was to guarentee peace between them. Kitana never really shown an strong interest in being empress and has always been a reasonable person. Mileena hasn't been the most stable and did chase the crown. Giving this Mileena the crown removes any chance for conflict.

I feel like there has to be some universal constants to have a stable timeline. Like Jerrod has to be dead for example. Mileena having tarkat is probably unavoidable. I'd wager Liu Kang originally made her healthy and then for no reason she snuck out of the palace and contracted it anyway because it's just her destiny.

Yeah. This was also pretty much outright stated in the part where Kenshi gets blinded, and when Liu sees him says something like "I had hoped it would happen differently this time." There are definitely fixed points in the MK timeline that can't be changed.

Also, unrelated, (final chapter spoilers), why is the gender-swapped Johnny Cage named "Janet Cage" even though the much better name "Jenny Cage" is RIGHT THERE

I was also thinking about there being universal constants. But Liu Kang didn't have that much to do with things according to him. It was mostly a hands off approach after crafting the timeline. So Mileena being the heir should have been out of his control.

Finished invasions already. This game is so damn empty. The unlocks you get suck and there's nothing fun enough to grind for the stages.

Baraka Instantly became a contender for one of my mains after playing his chapter in the story mode

Mileena + Raiden have been my next favorites, though I've still yet to decide which of these 3 I want to main.

Others I like are Smoke, Sub-Zero, and Sindel. I was really hoping Reptile would be a contender for my main as well (from the trailers he was the one I was intending to main), but after using him for the 1st few days I'm not really a fan of his gameplay. Mainly because he doesn't seem to have good mixup options.

At first I started with Reptile, but I'm kinda liking Li Mei. I wanted to use Sub-Zero since he's been my favorite since the first time I ever played Mortal Kombat, but I just cannot vibe with this Bi-Han.

I'm trying to get good with Smoke but I think I'm just naturally better with Sindel smh.

Really not liking how all the enemies in Invasion have super armor. Whoever thought that was a good idea is a fucking clown

I think I'm gonna be done with story mode today. Then I'm gonna try some online. I think I'm going to focus on Reptile and Nitara (despite that horrible fucking voice). Maybe some Shang Tsung if I'm feeling big-brained.

Lots of fun characters, though. Especially whenever the DLC comes out.

I lost connection to the PSN server for like a half second and it booted me out of an invasions tower

Protip if anyone hates secret fights and ambushes in Invasion:

If you get a secret fight, just press pause and return to map. You won't get a talisman or anything and can continue like usual.

If you get an ambush, exit to main menu and then re-enter invasion and you'll be on the same spot you were minus the ambush.

Just beat the story. Liked it a lot. Possibly the best story in the franchise.

I liked how Shang Tsung was the main villain. I also liked the timeline shit. And the kombo characters. I hope there's an Aftermath style dlc eventually so I don't have to wait years for another release for more story.

I honestly loved the story, even the final chapter though it was definitely the weakest in all of the story mode. I just loved the fact that it was very simple, until it got to the whole timelines and multiverse stuff, though I could tell NRS had a lot of fun with the Character fusions. Also I had fun trying to theorize who the big bad was, and while it being Titan Shang Tsung from MK11 (which meant his ending was also canon) makes sense, I was also disappointed as well, but at least it wasn't Kronika. I kind of wanted Onaga, but we can't have everything. But Titan Havik as the new Big Bad in either the next DLC story or sequel, I'm all for it.

I wanted to try Smoke, but my god is his timing strict as fuck in comparison to others, imo. He requires a lot of dexterity, which I'm honestly surprised to see soo many Smokes online. So far, I'm playing my first 2 picks: Baraka and Reptile but I'm growing to enjoy Li Mei as well. Reptile because he looks cool and Baraka because his moves looks flashy as fuck. What I'm sick and tired of seeing online is Sareena though, her boomerang cameo attack is so fucking annoying. But at least zoning in this game isn't MK11 or Injustice 2 levels of bad and unfun.

Honestly now that I've completed Invasion I'm struggling to find anything to do. I'm not exaggerating when I say I played MK 11 almost literally every day for 4 years. The towers of time were fun and it really felt like you were working towards something, but now that the gear and costume system has been paired way back it just feels pointless. Yeah, there are some "towers" but they're basically single fights with no rewards. As much as I was looking forward to this I'm disappointed in the lack of customization and single player content.

IIRC Injustice 2 was the same way at launch and the first update they had was a bunch of single player shit to do.

I'm kinda annoyed that I can't finish the Weekly quest because the uppercut one and the grounded attack one are bugged and have to be done in a single match.

Smoke's vapor cancel is such a dumb combination of buttons. Doesn't feel intuitive at all. Dunno why they thought that was a good idea.

I am disappointed in MK1. I have been waiting forever. This is one of the first games in a long time I had paid full price for . And I hate that I did. I have already stopped playing it and went back to WWE 23 and MK11. Like just simple little things like taken away the intros. Those were so neat, why would they do that . Not have Sonya Jax and Kano. And when they do show up just damn. Sonya is Kano, and Jax is killed in like just damn.

Ngl it was nice not having the special forces crew playing a part in the story this go around. We'll have plenty of that shit in the next one I'm sure.

Kenshi's arcade ending has him joining an organization called the Outworld Investigation Agency and becomes partners with Jax, so they're setting it up for the next game or DLC.

I just got the Indiana Jones skin for Johnny Cage out of the Shrine and I'm so fucking glad they didn't save that one as a DLC sale

Smoke is my favorite MK character I think but I dunno, his combos in this game feel very boring. Gonna give it some more time but I might move to Baraka (never thought I'd ever say that tbh), Sindel or Scorpion.

Lmao Switch version

Played online for the first time yesterday and won 50% of my sets which seems about right. I'm not very good at this game. I have a hard time finding use of the kameo moves with Smoke's combos unless I choose Sareena which I kinda don't want to because that set up looks so boring and played out.

I've been using Cyrax instead but he barely does anything for me. Might have to try Sektor out.

Also apparently MK1 has player 1 bias which really shouldn't be happening in 2023. Thought they figured that shit out after 9.

My friend who doesn't play fighting games at all (literally just mashes buttons) got into this game because of the story mode. He's nowhere near good, but seeing him do special moves and being interested in these characters was super cool.

I haven't played since last weekend, though, since Baldur's Gate 3 has re-captured me

Buy the masks at the store and have a key at least with you keep the rings for the uppercut thing I don't bother with the rest of the items I found a guide on Reddit for it and the guy who made it has a TikTok that explains Invasion maps much better and easier

Dude, thanks for the maps. I might go back to actually try to unlock the stuff now. It was too much of a chore to do.

Also sucks about the player 1 advantage crap. That shit was in MK9 and MK11 from my memory, this might be a slight sign that this game was sorta rushed because I don't know any other fighter that had this issue other than NRS games.

Those pictures help but I dunno if I can get through the invasion mode still. It's such a fucking slog. I'm tired of going for the first hit and the enemy super armoring through it every time. It's not even hard, especially with the stat element, it's just repetitive and annoying.

The modifiers are straight trash too. Really dunno what they were thinking with this mode. I would have much preferred a Krypt with random battles here and there than this. The lack of online towers is also a ding for me. Those were actually fun.

Pretty happy of NRS to take feedback seriously. When I complained the first Beta for this game had really slow and janky movement, I never thought they would actually listen. I mean it still has janky movement, but the speed definitely improved.

I'm a little over 50/50 for my W/L with Smoke. There's this weird thing that's been happening where my character will continue walking after I jump over someone facing the other way for like 3 steps. Caused me to drop block and lose a few rounds.

I still haven't gone online with this one yet. I was a beast in MKX with Kitana back in the early days. Like before she got any buffs and every said she sucked. Think I had a 70-80% win rate at my peak. I also used Royal Storm instead of the more popular Assassin. I've made 2 different King of the Hill lobbies leave since I was unbeatable lol. The highest streak I had was 20-something where I finally lost on purpose since it was just down to me and 1 guy and I had beaten him 3 times a row already and I didn't want him to leave too. ;_; The guy called me out and asked if I lost on purpose though lmao. And of course right after that lost, the lobby filled up again. Lost for nothing lmao.
