In a deviation from federal recommendations, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration is advising residents under age 65 not to get the new Covid boosters from Pfizer and Moderna.

"What I have directed our department to do is to provide guidance that really recommends and advises against the use of these mRNA Covid-19 vaccines for anyone under 65," the state surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, said at an online panel hosted by DeSantis on Wednesday.

The statement ignores the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendations: The agency said Tuesday that everyone ages 6 months and up who has not gotten a Covid shot within the last two months should get a new booster, which targets a subvariant of omicron called XBB.1.5.

"Vaccination remains the best protection against Covid-19-related hospitalization and death. Vaccination also reduces your chance of suffering the effects of long Covid," the CDC said in a statement Tuesday.

But Ladapo questioned the CDCs rationale.

"With virtually every walking human being having some degree of immunity and the questions we have about safety and about effectiveness especially about safety my judgment is that its not a good decision for young people and for people who are not at high risk at this point in the pandemic," Ladapo said.

It's getting harder and harder to avoid those claims that Republicans are just a death cult now.

Sounds like it's a recommendation, not an actual prohibition? Hopefully, anyway. A dumb recommendation can simply be ignored.

I don't mean to state the obvious here, but maybe people don't need to take the vaccines...

I have had covid four times now and each time it was completely different, and every day I had it the symptoms would change slightly from the day before. It is a very weird illness and you can't really say what it will be like when other people get it.

That 'Surgeon General" is just this side of a witch doctor. He appeared in the "Demon Seed" video and every degree granting institution he has graduated from or worked at has disavowed his views.

Yet DeSantis made him the state's top doctor.

Just so we're clear, when this quack doctor was being 100% serious without a hint of humor being thrown in, hannity's studio team, not audience, audibly laughed at him.

Prior to COVID, anti-vaxxers existed but they were fringe that people on both sides agreed were dumb. Now thanks to GOP politicians, being anti-vax has gone full mainstream and politicized as a way to "trigger the libs".

It's the bloodthirsty thirst for "victory". The GOP had a somewhat defensible stance in personal freedom to choose to be vaccinated. It was stupid not to but I can see the argument against forcing people. But the GOP can't help themselves and have to "prove" their stupidity was the correct choice so now they've gone all in on the vaccine conspiracies and will make themselves "right" through brute force and lies

That's what I'm banking on / crossing my fingers over. I'm gonna call up my local CVS Sunday or Monday to schedule a booster, and if they refuse because I'm under 65, I'm going to ask if they can direct me to a local pharmacy / booster provider that actually knows how to do their fucking jobs.
