TodorokiHayato 09/10/23 2:05:04 PM #1:	In my attempt to reclaim the experiences that I missed during my 20s and 30s, I've been kind of yearning to change my appearance and mannerism; in a way that people half my age will see me as one of them. It's been difficult so far, in the sense that I can't seem to get the flow of conversation right. I end up saying the wrong slang at the wrong time, or I over emphasize things in a way that comes off arrogant and marked with millennial entitlement. For example, an 18 year old was talking about the struggles of rising inequality and instead of replying with the expected one word response, I attempted to have a serious discussion and asked them what they thought about the racial wealth gap and who was to blame? They looked at me and I could see the hesitation in their eyes. Now I'm thinking all they really wanted to do was appear to discuss "important issues" and have someone validate their thoughts as contribution to society. Based off your opening post, I'm assuming you are 45+. Why not make friends with people your age you can relate with better. If you feel you can't relate to people in their 20s or even 30s, I don't recommend changing yourself to fit in with a crowd you already don't understand. I've worked in the restaurant industry for almost 20 years now and every batch of waiters/waitresses/managers who are 18-21 might as well be aliens to me. I just be myself, am honest and reliable and tend to not put my nose in their business. Everyone either respects me or leaves me alone. I've worked with plenty of "you" before, too, and it's always cringe every time. You need to keep a radar on for what people your age perceive of you, too, when you go around saying "No cap," "That's mid" or "On God' etc because it looks like you have ulterior motives. Every time. I'd rather jump off a building then hang out with a bunch of zoomers after work. Best case scenario it's completely socially awkward, worst case scenario is you're gettting drunk or doing drugs with a bunch of kids? Maybe I'll get a tattoo and that weird looking bull nose piercing that's been popularized lately. I'm just tired of being typecast as someone old and responsible. I want to be free you know?
