I don't know why anyone would care about FFIX's Cid. Everybody hates the mini-game where you control him as the frog and you have to flip the hourglass. We might as well nominate Hippaul.

Mog from that same game almost made the top half. Cid could probably do that if there was a Year of Cids, but only that. Basically no one has any inherent strength. If Blank couldn't perform well I don't think any of those others can either.

just to be clear as someone who has always been in Black Mage's corner, I have never actually seen 8BT I just have always found BM to be the most iconic design in Final Fantasy

(although I mean others saving them and other FF1 characters were obv referencing it so yeah I'm just speaking for me)

Mog did well because Roba was dedicated to getting him to a good finish, he'll be a hard boot next year for sure

I think the ff1 characters have appeal beyond 8 bit theatre. Design matters.

FF3's best entrant is Refia because I'd actually save her. Of course look at X-Death's boots and you know that isn't good enough to get far all the time...

depending on other noms should could be my 3rd priority, and so far from 3rd priorities can pass boots if they have another supporter (Mira had LuisSera almost reaching top half, Mogdffoo had TomNook)

I've always liked FFIX Cid and I like the minigame entirely because of the music. But every character I've nominated in does poorly because they are invariably "maybe H3" priorities for me. Benjamin, NORG, Rude, Reddas, Gabranth... Hell, I can't even keep Kefka, Ashe and Ultros in.

(I've excluded some characters because there were a lot. Apologies to any big fans of characters such as Tromell Guado or Jyscal Guado)

Chuami: I haven't actually read Will, I just know that it sucks and that this is Auron's daughter. And, you know what, that's enough for me. I'd support Chuami! I doubt anyone else would, though.

Kurgum: Another Will character, only this isn't a cute girl with a shoehorned tie to the main cast, so he can get lost.

Brother: The man, the legend, the Brother! I know I just got done joking about backing Chuami for the lulz, but I 100% mean it when I say I love Brother. This dude is great, and I'm glad he hasnt already gotten six boots before I even started participating in SMFFFC because now maybe someday I can back him into becoming a stats juggernaut like he deserves.

Cid: I hate that this Cid doesn't even have a last name. The one in II was the first one so he didn't need it, this Cid has no excuse! He should be Cid Al-Bhed or something, just like everyone else is named by their civilization like the Ronso or Guado. Anyway, even in a year of Cids, I think this Cid is too confusingly named to get much support.

Yu Yevon: His inclusion in that "bad last boss" list earlier in the topic kind of says it all, Yu Yevon sucks.

Vegnagun: The TVTropes page says this is a character, shut up. I would support Vegnagun if it was eligible, but I'm guessing not many other people would.

Barthello: If Dona didn't do well, this dude wouldn't either.

Biran & Yenke: It'd be fun to have them in one year just to have them place higher than a certain hornless Ronso... but that would mean bringing Kimahri back into SMFFF too, so, nah.

Nooj: The worst thing about Leblanc is her attraction to this loser. I don't like Nooj. He sucks.

Tobli: I absolutely love Tobli (he's the eccentric guy who planned Yuna's X-2 concert). However, since I needed to remind everyone of who he is just now, I doubt he'd do well in SMFFFC.

Nhadala: This lady should be a lock for contest XXX because... damn. I don't actually remember her from the plot, though, so I doubt she'd do well.

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: Brother, because I will main him for as long as it takes for him to achieve that success (says the guy who couldn't even get Terra into the top 30)

We already have Cids who go by Cid and then a letter, so why not just have him go by Cid X?

I'm going to stop there for today at least. The only mainline game left that I've played is the XIII trilogy in any case, so further consideration would be fruitless. My pick for XIII would be Dajh Katzroy though, mostly because people seem to like saving DK in the finals.

My initial question was if there's any other untapped characters who could rank highly in SMFFFC. I think it's clear now that the answer is... no, probably not.

it does though have an exchange of Xuxon mentioning a guideline to FFD disallowing characters

context: FFD was ranking NPCs STATS and that list included BM, so Xuxon points out wait if BM is an NPC he wouldn't be eligible (no non-speaking NPCs?), which FFD counters that BM's inclusion in said list was just a copy/paste error

I remember one of the rules was that you couldn't nominate nameless NPCs in general (I think this was mostly to prevent people from nominating stuff like the kid who wanted to be a blitzball when he grew up in FFX). I didn't recall that they had to have dialogue, too.

I would definitely support the "Stay away from the summoner!" old lady if she was eligible.

I don't see what the issue is there? Bahamut talked in the very first game, and Shiva and Ifrit have had dialogue at least since FF6. In fact, I think more of the summons in this have had dialogue than haven't had dialogue.

I have wanted Rin in for a while now, but I can never get any steam behind him. He's a way better merchant than flipping O'aka XXIII and he has more plot relevance too. Not memeable enough I guess.
