it is p easy to tell by someone's posting habits if they are an incel type. the reddit guy linked in the op was banned for just using the word female at all and there doesn't seem to be any indication at all that person posts like an incel. the reddit mod in this scenario comes off much worse in every way.

I have never heard of people using female in a negative catchall sense, outside of isolated incidents. People make jokes about women/females using those terms all the time for example, but that is different from using the term female as a general negative insult. Same with saying men are pigs.

No way is female commonly used in a general sense negatively as an insult. This guy? I don't know, maybe he had a history of doing that. Ban him then.

The term Negro, for example. I'm aware of that being used majority negatively, even if there can be a few instances where it is correct and context specific. I don't think female is in the same boat.

I use female to refer to female characters here often and male to refer to male characters.

I've heard people say "female drivers" but that's not what I suspect you're getting at. No I don't use female like that. That sounds weird to me.

Then again, I know a lot of people who refer to all young women as 'girls', even in a negative sense, but I suppose I've heard men called 'boys' in a negative sense also.

No, the added context from the mod was "they got banned because they were being a poor sport with a bad attitude when talked to about the awkwardness of the title."

And being banned from a single subreddit isn't that big of a punishment. It's the equivalent of being kicked out of a discord server. You can still post everywhere else, just not with that one community.

And that's why context matters. People have said multiple times in this topic that it's a problem when female is used as a noun, not an adjective.

And there's me, who just wants to be a young girl forever because I hate the thought of being in a man's body or growing old.

So I was trying to describe my platonic friends who are girls the other day and was conscious "female" is now taboo, but women friends or girl friends sounds a bit strange, female friends works in that sentence best.

It really depends on the context.

Saying "I have about 10 female friends I actively talk to" isn't bad.

Saying "That's just how females act and behave" or "you know how females are" is what has developed its negative reputation.

I think you're smart enough to know if the context you're using it in is insulting or not.

While female is a scientifically accurate word, it has such negative connotations towards gender ideology that it's fucking cringe whenever somebody unironically uses it.

i think one of the problems with incels' mindset is that they're taking the transactional nature of dating a bit too literally. they think that they're 'buying' the girl with time spent pretending to be nice to her (and i say pretending because if the only goal is to get rewarded with sex...) or the amount of money he actually spends on her

if you're in a friendship situation with a girl and dump your wallet on her thinking it will magically turn her into a girlfriend you're a donut and if you treat your real life like a shitty newgrounds dating sim you should probably do some re-evaluation. if all you want is to get to the sex part, there's a skip button in real life too, it's called escorts, go dump your wallet on that instead of making some poor girl's life miserable obsessing with her when you don't even really care about her

and don't get me wrong there are people out there who are genuine incel, people who are horribly disfigured or morbidly obese or have a real mental disorder or just in some way have an actual barrier that prevents them from meeting someone. but for a lot of these incel types, it seems to me like it just comes down to their mindset and their personality

go around putting hate into the world and blaming everyone else for everything, viewing it all from that transactional lens and whining about how unfair it all is, treating girls like gacha games and of course you're alone. that's not the 'females', that's you bruv

Being well cultured on the Internet doesn't translate to being well cultured IRL. I don't believe that the common average person off the street would know that "female" is a well known Incel word to insult women.

Compared to all the crap guys are called on a regular basis female is relativily tame even if you find it offensive.

I meant to say that what maybe be widely common knowledge on the Internet won't be common knowledge IRL.

Not sure why we're acting like the internet is some niche culture for which only nerds indulge. Pretty much every single person in a first world country interacts daily with the internet. But even on top of that, this isn't some artbitrary cultural designation that's super unique to internet culture. The reason it sounds dehumanizing is because that form of speech in normal everyday conversation is only used towards nonhuman animals or research subjects.

I bet that if you stopped someone on the streets and asked them if referring to women as females in everyday normal speech is weird and cringy, they would say yes most of the time.

Male and female are used fairly often in the healthcare settings (more of as an adjective, though).

Sort of surprised that some people use the words as insults.

being an incel goes much deeper than using the term female.

i have said:
where the females at? referring to being at a function with mostly male presence..

or dont lay your hands on no female, bruh.
again verbally referencing an issue between a male trying to press a female.

none of which refers to incel behavior. i think the internet by and large are full of sensitive users that have temper tantrums when another opinion isnt inline with their ideals. especially those in power (meaning mods, etc).

I guess that women shouldn't leave their comfort zone IE traditional standards, roles, and limitations for them, because leaving your zone can be scary so why explore the world, you could get hurt.

That's my most generous interpretation, it's like analyzing a turd for some artistic quality.

I've never met someone who unironically called women "females" who wasn't a creepy douche.
