So my mom watches a lot of TV (both cable and streaming), but she never seems to go out of her way to watch animated programming. I asked her why and it basically comes down to its drawings instead of real people. I thought maybe if she checked out some shows that suit her tastes, shed change her mind.

I also asked her what kinds of things she likes in the shows she watches and her favorites at the moment. This is what she said.

Genres/Themes: True Crime, Mystery, Comedy, Soap Operas, Something with a serious long-term story/plot.
Shows: NCIS, Monk, The Young and the Restless/Bold and the Beautiful, Only Murders in the Building.

Im drawing at a blank of what cartoons to suggest to her. I could only think of Gravity Falls, but I fear it would be too silly or unfocused to keep her attention.

If anyone knows an animated show that fits with the above descriptions, I would love to hear it.

Ive only heard of Archer and Bojack, but Ill look into Violet and Paranoia.

Bojack Horseman sounds like a good idea, but Ive heard the first season is, um, not so good? Would it be best to skip to the second season, or is the show worth watching the whole way through?

Bojack. It's not so much the first season is bad, just the first couple episodes aren't very representative.

And the first few episodes of Bojack are fine. I think they are representative of half the show, its just the other half takes a bit to develop.

But honestly if you hate the first half you arent going to enjoy it nearly as much given the wacky hijinks are still prominent the entire way. Hollywoo stars and celebrities do they know things lets find out is one of my favorite episodes and its closer to S1 Bojack than S6 Bojack

A ton of people have just never even given animation a chance. She could at least give a genuine attempt to get into a good animated show before writing them off.
