Uh, did you watch AEW from 2019 to Punk's arrival? Shows with Joey Janella, Kip Sabian, a blonde haired Miro, and Marko Stunt, were not on par with shows with Cole, Punk, Danielson, and whomever else arrived post June 2021.
Not to mention Collision.

There were a lot more misses than hits but OG AEW had a much more unique, chaotic feel to it that post-Punk AEW doesn't really have.

You're upset that I won't tear into Punk. Because I don't need to. Everyone else already is. What everyone else is doing however, is ignoring that Jack Perry instigated this. That's why I'm calling out this shit stain out. Because for whatever reason, you all give him a pass. Because you have such a hate boner for Punk, it doesn't matter what someone does to him, as long as it's to Punk.

If Perry did this to the Bucks, and the Bucks got in his face, you'd be throwing a fit that Perry should be fired.

Moxley and Omega had some of my favorite matches during that era, and even during the pandemic some of the shows from Daily's Place had some incredible matches. Wasn't the first Stadium Stampede during that era? That match was insanely fun.

Don't act like Marko Stunt and Kip Sabian were in the main events lmao

Everybody on that list besides Punk doesn't have a hair trigger and wants to fight the whole locker room.

One match of theirs was great, Full Gear unsanctioned in 2019. That's still among my GOAT AEW matches. Their exploding death match was among the biggest embarrassments in wrestling history. Really, putting Kenny with Don was probably the worst idea ever. It detracted from Kenny doing anything relevant and made the focus on Don Callis and not on Kenny Omega.

Same for pairing Omega with the Bucks. I'm a big Omega fan. Wish he was a singles wrestler though instead of a trios, tag, or whatever else. I get his body is fucked, and he can only bust out a great singles match sparingly, but I'd love for Omega to be great on his own, rather than an afterthought with others.

If they don't fire Perry which it looks like they won't. They should really lean into this

Perry can act like he's the one that kicked Punk out of AEW. Talk like he beat Punk's ass. Maybe call himself the Real World champion. Be absolutely insuffrable about it.

It'd be great. The dude is a natural asshole.

I mean from a businsess perspective you're right.

But from an entertainment perspective, whatever is the point in not firing the guy and then not using him?

Either shit or get off the pot. Fire Perry (IMO they should) or use him.

If The Young Bucks were the ones who told Perry not do stupid shit with real glass, all the users in this topic furious at Punk would be praising them up the arse and using it as an example of how intelligent and brilliant the Bucks are.

People get stuck in the mindset of "I like X, so everything they do is perfect" "I dislike Y, so everything they do is awful"

Fuck this.

This is the second time a backstage fight involving him has overshadowed a big moment in company history. The elite are mean girls, and this idiot went to high school with them when he threw a bitch fit the first time holding this company's title. He is a bitter man, and he takes shit too far, and this goes back to hangman coming at him about workings rights 0 bitch never let that go.

About time tony stopped being a bitch - dude fired his biggest star arguably. Let's see if these fucking kids behave now, and the fights stop.

AEW survived a pandemic in their infancy - they don't fucking need punk. Just stop burning out chicago with shows.

Nah I don't buy this

People on the internet like to big themselves up but there's no way Punk whooping Jack Perry's ass and getting fired "overshadows" the Wembley show.

It was an 80,000 seat arena, largest paid audience ever and all that. The backstage drama will be a footnote in 2 months time and AEW will still be talking about Wembley in 16 years if the company still exists.

"The Bucks are good vets who know when to tell a talent when to hold back for their own safety. That's why they're the best in the business" or something like that. The same ones who are happy that wrestlers today don't listen to the old fuddy duddy vets who haven't evolved.

Problem is that CM Punk wasn't entirely wrong. Jack Perry will have a major laceration that will terrify people in coming years as he wants to use real fucking glass for spots.

We already know using real glass is dumb. And Perry was super unprofessional to shoot during this event. So yeah punk wasn't entirely wrong.

The problem is Punk was already on thin ice and didn't help matters at all. Punk deserved this. Perry deserves a suspension. They both were idiots here

To this day... I still don't understand the hype and appeal of CM Punk.

As an AEW fan, I was just getting used to the idea of him being a constant belt holder and spotlight seeker after having been baffled by his ascent to champion status in WWE years ago.

Well, if this is real and not an angle... I'm kinda glad. I usually don't follow the backstage drama, so I had no idea Punk was so unhinged and temper-mental behind the scenes.

Hopefully with Punk out of the picture we'll see pushes on better top talents like Adam Cole, Adam Page, Swerve Strickland, and Ricky Starks who are either due or can be molded into greats.

I assume this is meant to be sarcastic, but seriously I hope this puts an end to the CM story in AEW, I don't care if they take him back in WWE because I'm done with the McMahon family bullshit.

To me CM Punk was always a random mid-card regular type wrestler. The kind of guy that used to challenge for the intercontinental or secondary titles, or would join another well known mid-card for a tag team run and hold the belts briefly to mix things up. You know the type, right? But he either made a deal with the devil or management made a weird bet that they could push the most mediocre mid card face on the roster to be a champ, and the fans would eat it up and accept it.

That's just how he always came off to me, I know that's not really how it happened... but damn... why do people love and get behind this guy?

Yup, so well put.

I think his talking is way over-hyped, or maybe I missed his best years of it when I stopped watching wrestling for many years in the mid 2000-2010 era. I see guys who can cut a promo like Moxley as better, who really won me over despite at first thinking he was just a mid-western Stone Cold rip-off.
