Sony has decided to ride the price hike train and will be increasing the price of all 3 tiers of PS+ starting next month.

Essential - From $60 to $80
Extra - From $100 to $135
Premium - From $120 to $160

Yea, the only online game I play these days is Fall Guys, and that doesn't even need a PS+ subscription. So I'll likely be out once mine expires as well.

I haven't had any online subscription services for gaming for a few years.

Last I had was Nintendo so I could play sword online. Got my fill of that and didn't renew. Had planned to for scarvio, but then those ended up being shit so I didn't care.

Very recently, they silently removed Stray which was their first Day 1 exclusive albeit not a AAA title. Never even had a chance to finish that :(

This. I mean, what have gamers expected? Making games costs money. Making great games costs even more money. The costs for making games isn't going down just by changing the pricing model from single purchases to subscription services.

As long as I have a choice, I'll never subscribe to gaming subscription services (except the minimum fee that's necessary to play online). I'll always rather buy games singly. By that, I reward publishers and studios directly. I pay more that way compared to the subscription fee, but I decide who's getting my money. From an economical point of view, it's much more sustainable.

so glad i jumped to game pass when you could stack gold subscriptions and convert for $1. I got 3 years of game pass ultimate for like $120, then another 6 months with microsoft rewards points when they were giving 3 month codes for 1 month rewards. 3 and a half years for roughly $120. If i was to buy that now at the base value, id be looking at over $600

Budget-wise

Avg new video game by 2025 = appx $70-$80
# of big title releases likely per year = 2-4
Mid-tier Subscription cost = $100 appx
PS+ Premium = $160 or $13 in cost per month
Avg video streaming service per month = $16/month

Shit was inevitable but what can you do really. Either get a sub or don't buy games at full price.

I havent even played my PlayStation in over a year, this was a good reminder to end my subscription

A 33% increase is absurd.

Game Pass had a 10% increase and has a substantially better library, and that still soured people.

That's one big hike. I never had Playstation Plus just for various reasons (initially I rarely even went online with my PS3 and well a bit more with 4) and the passing years I just lost interest in most online gaming.

You're part of the problem then. Or why do you think, Microsoft hasn't released countless of great games like Nintendo and Sony have done during the last 7-8 years? It's because they can't / don't want to invest more money, because otherwise they couldn't sell Game Pass for that cheap. That's their business plan.

I buy games I like as well, bought BG3 for full price even though im not gonna play through it right away, just to support great games. Game Pass is just fluff for me. And it seems like Microsofts drought is finally about to be over. Glad I waited for the perfect time to jump in!

I'd buy GamePass more often if Microsoft was more open when games are going to be kicked off. Right now, you only get a 14 day warning which makes playing long games on GamePass a really risky proposition unless you have no life and play games all day.

Time to dust off all the alt emails and feed off free trials. Not paying $80 a year to play online. Especially when not a single PS5 game has even interested me so far. I'm still on PS4

At least I don't have to worry about Gamepass Ultimate until 2026, I reupped it before Microsoft did the increase a few months ago but I definitely won't renew PS plus come December.

Most people on the cheapest tier aren't paying for it for the free games. They're paying for it to be able to play a fucking game online.
