Does making calls give you anxiety? If so, do you think it's a problem you should work on?

Yes, which is particularly fun as a core part of my job requires me to phone our technicians. My main way around it is to just make sure I'm prepared for the call.

This. Its pretty rare though. Usually its about big things that can impact my life. Which is only normal. Calling a pizza place or a doctors office? Thats pretty easy

I just hate talking in general. I don't even like small talk at the barber.

I'm an adult, so no.

"Phone anxiety" is legitimately one of the most cringe things about younger millennials and zoomers.

I hate to say it, but this is true.
And not a good sign.

No. The drummer in my band said he felt weird calling people which is why he only texts. I guess this is a thing now.

In general, no. Definitely been some specific instances of dreading making a call about something.

I generally prefer calls to text/email. Anything in writing puts me way more on edge, like I have to be double-plus careful what I write, since it will persist afterwards and if I say something incorrect it could come back to haunt me in the future.
For a similar reason, I don't like leaving voicemail messages if someone doesn't answer. If I have to, I keep it as brief as possible to basically say, "call me back."

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Yup, making fun of someone for being anxious about something that they can't help being anxious about sure does seem like a very adult thing to do. How mature of you.

You think that I, or any other person with phone anxiety, WANTS to feel that pit in their stomach every time they have to make a phone call? Hell, this applies to any form of anxiety. If I could get rid of all my anxiety, don't you think I would've by now?

There's a LOT of reasons to hate the younger generation. But this ain't one of those reasons, chief.

It's a phenomena that's almost exclusive to the younger generation who grew up doing nothing but texting. Older millennials and up remember when calling someone on the phone was the primary form of communication and don't have this issue.

I don't generally like talking on the phone but I wouldn't say it gives me anxiety. Unless the call I'm making has some reason to. Mostly I avoid using it cause I prefer just messaging but sometimes it's fine. Really depends who I'm talking to and what about.

This... does not counter anything I said in my post. Yes, it IS nearly exclusive to the younger generation. That seems reasonable enough. But it doesn't change the fact that looking down on someone for feeling anxiety over something, when they can't even control the fact that they have anxiety over that thing, is still an incredibly shitty thing to do. That's the point I'm trying to make.

If you're trying to make an argument with your post, I honest to God don't see it, because our posts are basically talking about two different aspects of the same issue.
If you're NOT trying to make an argument, then... uhh my bad I guess.

Nope. I grew up in the time that when I was a kid and wanted to call a girl I had to talk to her mom/dad first because there was only a landline. That's ultimate nervous. Anything past that is easy.

No, Ive worked two jobs that required me to make phone calls regularly (residential cable/ISP tech, and social worker) so it doesnt bother me the slightest. I try to keep it in mind that other people might not be as comfortable on the phone so Ill text them if they prefer to do that.

No. Answering phone calls does a little bit from unknown numbers, but I've never had a problem calling to make an appointment or whatever.

Yes. I have pretty severe social anxiety. Anything where I have to interact with someone in a personal level gives me anxiety.

Oddly enough, posting on gamefaqs is pretty much the one and only that doesn't affect me that way.

I'm 37 and yes. I have social anxiety fueled by ASD. I always have to rehearse what I'm going to say, and even then it rarely comes out as eloquent as planned.
