I know my younger cousins still did back in the late 2000s but...dunno about modern day, doubt it's mandatory reading in the south though

I moved a lot and read it at least three different times in three different grades growing up. So it used to be, anyway.

Did y'all have this little hardback book when you read it? I've still got one, found it at a garage sale back in the day.

I read it.

Felt stupid about having to take a test about it instead of actually just reading it.

Also, I prefered The Giver when it was assigned to me. The book spoke to me about the cruelty that comes with the pursuit of perfection.

I can't post. The element in CE that is hellbent on making me out to be a racist will quote me as trying to force children to read the n-word or else trying to prevent them from reading about racial injustice.

I can see that. Of course if the teacher really wanted heads to explode they'd teach something like The Bluest Eye. These days I'm not even sure a college class could handle a book like that. :P

Huxley and Orwell make sense and were in my school too.

Rand doesnt make sense though and shouldnt be read by any classroom cause its garbage. And this is from someone who not only owns and read Shrugged but watched all three movies for some dumb reason.

Books are useless! I only ever read one book, "To Kill A Mockingbird" and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the colour of his skin... but what good does *that* do me?
