While doing self check out. I even double checked, but while loading the stuff into the car I noticed I missed a lil $2 pack of catnip. I know its walmart, but it doesnt feel good. That said Im not going back for 2 bucks.

I did that accidentally with produce one time. Was really tired, stressed, etc. Somehow didn't realize the thing I was trying to ring up needed to be weighed. Because sometimes it's just a straight up price so that's what my brain thought.

With variance on the scale of the register it eventually weighed enough to accept it. Paid like 10 cents when it should have been like 4 bucks lol.

There was probably a time where you bought something that was damaged, defective, expired, or a sale/coupon wasn't applied correctly. I'd call it even.

Pretty much nothing you can do. Going back puts you at risk. That or they wont even bother with it or have you pay. Not doing anything also puts you at risk, but at least theres plausible deniability. For something that small the shrinkage is likely expected/insured/overlooked/ignored.

Eh I used to work there. You didn't do anything malicious, and it's their fault for not having people properly observing and attending the self-check out area. Don't feel too bad over an honest mistake, thievery is intentional.

No it doesn't. Every monetary loss is called shrink. There would be zero accounting problems if the product is paid for.

i accidentally overlooked a thin pack of turkey bacon at the bottom of the cart when i checked out one day was distracted by the cute cashier and was horrified when i got home

went back in with the bar code to pay for it at customer support - they appreciated the fact that i had the honesty to sort things out, apparently a dying virtue

I would not care, because there is no doubt I have been charged double for something at least once going through the normal checkout. I try to keep track but it is not always easy, and it is impossible to read the recepts last I checked.

Was thinking about this. Theres gotta be a somewhat significant amount of loss with so many people doing self check out and accidental/intentional thievery, but with less cashiers to pay for, the math is in their favor.

If you were to go back with the intent of paying for it, a manager is going to basically say Thanks for the honesty, but youre good.

It isnt worth their time to correct it. They anticipate lost/stolen inventory, and account for it regularly.
