I met Karlach this morning. She'll be a nice counterbalance so I won't have to worry about Shadowheart and Lae'zel sniping at each other. Plus, she is fun as all hell.

I haven't really used Lae'zel just because she's so abrasive that I don't want her in my party the first playthrough. Karlach as a berserker barbarian has been AMAZING for me. Throw haste on her and she just blasts stuff. I'm running her unarmored with a big 2H axe.

How necessary is it to have Astarion in the party? He feels just super necessary as the obligatory sleight of hand guy.

Wow I tried to save the gnomethat gets shoved in the lava by Nere.

Its impossible. Reloaded and attacked Nere before initiating the cinematic dialogue (where the gnome gets shoved) and the gnome just straight up dies automatically lol. Nere didn't even touch her I think.

This "Jannath Estate" quest is legit making me reconsider this game from 10/10 to a -100000 / 10

so is there a point where if you use too many tadpoles you have no choice about accepting the partial morph? I had to reload a few times with The Emperor because only one option let me get out of it.

I've used 10 so far, but I just looted 3 more in one spot and kinda want to get Cull the Weak. plus I haven't googled the outer ring of abilites so I have no idea how good those might be

Help me out, friends! Thinking of making a paladin.friend recommended taking the Oath of Vengeance and going 16 str/16 charisma. Is that viable? Any good builds you can recommend? He also recommended multi-classing with a warlock later.

Just in case, for anyone still in Act 1, dont let Laezel enter that tadpole remover at the Creche first. If you dont pass the saves, the machine gives her a -2 to multiple stats permanently. (I think the rolls for yourself are easier to pass). Didnt realize until Act 3, but Im really dissuaded from using her as often.

Also going into Act 3, the chest of the mundane breaks and permanently converts its contents to cups and utensils. Theyll still sell for the original item price, but dont keep anything important in there.

dump the rest of your points into con and that is a pretty standard pally build yeah. I would multiclass Warlock only if you are want to lean more caster or you are wanting to abuse a glitch.

Warlock also lets you attack with cha if you go pact of the blade, and then you also get warlock spell slots to smite with. Even if they fix the extra attack stacking bug Lockadin is still a good combo.

Anyway I wouldn't multi until you hit at least lvl 6 since you want your extra attack and CHA modifier to saving throws. Once you hit 6 you can either go to pally 7 lock 5 or pally 6 lock 6. Take pact of the blade so you can attack with cha. Respec you stats so that you max cha then con and wis then str or dex and dump int.

When would be a good time to multiclass?

if you go 7/5 or 6/6 aren't you losing out on the feat at 8? i've only just gotten to level 7 on my paladin and it would be weird to be that close to a feat, unless there's something at 5 or 6 warlock that would beat it

Why does he need to attack with CHA if he is starting paladin? Sorcadin is just better if you want to multiclass with a caster from Paladin. Lockadin is only popular because of the glitch. Devil Sight+Darkness not working and the general shittiness of eldritch invocations is also a bit hit to Lockadin in the 5e to BG3 transition.

You can respec you char and their stats any time you like. Which means once they hit lvl 3 lock they can respec and dump both str and dex and focus solely on cha, con and wis. This turns pally from a MAD to a SAD class which is nice. They also can use warlock spell slots for smites and those recharge on short rest, and finally they'll get eldritch blast for those situations when you need to attack from range.

I like sorcadin more than lockadin as well, but lockadin has value beyond the extra attack glitch. Also warlock has a lot of flavor RP wise. Making a pact with some powerful patron so you can pally harder is fucking dope.

I'm curious what old Wyll was like because ngl I've found him pretty boring. Maybe it will get more interesting when we find his father but his performance has been really one-note and unemotive even when he should be really going through it.

My party is basically cemented to Astarion-Shadowheart-Lae'zel, sometimes rotating in Gale for Astarion

You are, but currently there is a bug that lets you stack the extra attack you get from pally and the extra attack you get from warlock pact of the blade, which lets you make 3 attacks per round. That is far, far better than any feat you can take. If and when this bug gets fixed you might consider going 8/4 pally lock depending on if you value the feat more than you do lvl 3 lock spells.

He is starting Paladin so you are talking about level 9-10 which is straight up like the end of the game, by then you were going to be dumping STR anyway since you have an unlimited supply of potions of giant strength by then. I just don't think a better cantrip and using CHA on hit is worth having straight up 1/4th the spell slots, a worse spell list (although to be fair hunger of hadar is so good it could be argued that alone makes warlock spell list on par with sorc), and most importantly, no meta magic. If Eldritch invocations weren't so bad/few or if the darkness devil sight combo worked I would be all for Lockadin but right now if it wasn't for that 3 attack glitch they just don't offer much for pally that sorc doesn't.

Now if you are starting Warlock then yeah I think going Paladin is their best multi is probably your best bet.

dang that does sound way more powerful than a feat. haven't really touched warlock at all but can you make weapons you find into pact weapons and they keep their extra stuff? from the gith creche i've got the blood of lathander so i don't know if it would lose it's abilities when you make it a pact weapon

If you're in the Shadowlands, then you're in Act 2. It starts when you leave the Underdark/mountain pass

Huh. I guess I expected "Act II" to appear on the screen or something? Since people call it that instead of region 1, region 2.

Act 3 is about as long as act 1 if not longer. You spend a lot of time at max level, I think Larian was very intentionally trying to avoid the problem of your build being finished but the game ending before you can enjoy it.

If you do it instead you get a perk where you mind flayer abilities spend bonus actions rather than regular actions but you have to pass the checks.

i just did some stuff in the grymforge (killed nere), not even fully completed it and i'm sitting around 50 hours on this character. i might just be going a bit slow, opening every single container to loot, exploring and talking to almost everyone for quests and stuff
