Poll of the Day > Do you prefer houses with "open floor plans" or sectioned off rooms?

My first apartment was an open floor plan, and to be honest when I was alone it was great. Just walk from one section to the other without issue. When people visited though, I hated it. No privacy, and you heard every single conversation. My current house is closed floor plan for the most part, but the living room and kitchen are somewhat "open", but not really. Basically the entry between the two is 3-4 entryways wide. Same with the dinning and family room. I prefer it that way.

So which do you prefer?

A mix of the two. Open concept works well for areas like kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms where it's more typical for people (guests especially) to be socializing, but spaces that benefit more from being segregated (bedroom, office, tv/game room) are better off being separate from that open area.

At the very, very least, office/work space needs to be separate from sleeping space for me. Also nice to have space to bring guests, that is not also one's bedroom.
