Seems like VR should be the next evolution in gaming but so far VR is at the stage of TV going from 480p to 720/1080p but it's been stuck there for a while

its way to expensive and does not really add anything to the experience of gaming

its not like in a anime where you plug your brain into the world or something

you just duck tape a tv to your face

it's the true "next-gen" experience imo. kb+mouse/controller is soo played out and too limiting for some genres.

just wait a few decades i think VR will be more popular by then

Its too expensive and more or less you need space to utilize it. Not to mention for many it probably makes things super disorienting and doesnt have a long term play practicality to it versus just buying any of the three main consoles or a PC

There is nothing for it that doesn't feel like a tech demo or minigame. And it is still prohibitively expensive.

VR has been the next evolution in gaming since the late 80s, almost 40 years. When was gaming supposed to evolve, exactly?

Its too expensive, so you get people who havent tried it saying its just a dumb gimmick, and as a result nobody makes fully fleshed out games with VR specifically in mind

For good VR sets they can be pretty damn expensive. Not to mention even the Oculus Quest for the price range is still pretty expensive and once people find out its not for them it becomes more or less just a paper weight

400$ console + 200$ VR set + 60$ VR game

Vs

400$ console + 60$ game

If every other game was coming out with VR modes that'd be one thing.

quest 2 is $300, it's an incredibly competent piece of hardware, and it's self contained. you can spend $700 more on an Index for diminishing returns if you want, and then have to have a beefy gaming rig to work it.

and even still, vr games are by and by MUCH cheaper than $60. the "staples" are like $20-30.

For people who don't get motion sickness, racing sims are supposedly amazing in VR.

I would imagine flight simulators would be awesome too but I'm not really connected to that niche.

as a vr fan i will at least admit that alyx is really the only like... AAA vr game we've got so far BUT

stuff like beat saber, super hot VR, pistol whip, etc etc is the kind of low key entry point that people need to play to realize the value of VR.

and you can do that all for very little cost of entry.

also you can tether a quest to your pc and run shit like alyx or other steam vr games so you really lose very little

star wars: squadrons in VR with a flight stick is literally one of the coolest fucking things ever. but i guess the flight stick adds to the "too expensive" narrative. you can still use a regular controller.

VR will be pushed by porn imo. I'll buy VR stuff second I can turn on some porn, put on my headset, sync it to my fleshlight so it mimics what's happening on screen, all while it's in the mold of my favorite starlet. Get to work, porn scientists

Current VR is a gimmick, despite the long fights people used to have on Gamefaqs when the PSVR was first taking off. It's essentially just slapping a screen in front of your eyeballs, no matter how much it is dressed up to the contrary. Until the Star Trek holodeck is a thing, making that old Nick Arcade gameshow a reality(and one with greatly enhanced visuals at that), VR just isn't going to add anything meaningful to gaming.

PSVR was a piece of fucking shit. I had one. Just fucking awful in every regard. Sold it to someone I didn't like that much and their shitty children.

If PSVR is what put you off, try again. I mean that honestly. It's gotten much better.

One of the main things that no one has mentioned yet is that VR is only appropriate for a fraction of genres and games. Any 2D or third-person game doesnt work in VR. Even if you remove all of the other barriers it will never replace a regular monitor for the vast majority of games and genres. So it will always be a niche or peripheral device, not the standard way to game.

VR is essentially a different genre of games, and not many developers know how to take advantage of the features VR offers to make something truly shine.

A lot of VR games remind me of Atari games, in the sense that they're pretty shallow and more of a proof of concept/tech demo than a fully fledged game. Many games are fully playable/functional without VR, and have VR added as a gimmicky after-thought rather than a focus.

Astrobot Rescue Mission is one of the few VR games to take advantage of the medium it's in, and it's an excellent game because of it. I highly recommend it if you have the chance, since it shows the potential of VR.

Astrobot Rescue Mission is an amazing game! By far my favorite game I played on the PS4VR.

The VR on the PS4 was neat, but didn't convince me in the slightest that all games would benefit from VR.
