I think it is stronger than the 2nd, but not as good as the first.

I give them credit for not putting Gamora and Starlord together, nor him with Nebula. They also didn't shy away from animal abuse given what HE was doing.

I wasn't the biggest fan of what they did with Adam Warlock, making him kinda a powerful dolt. I wish they would have done more work in like comparing him to HE's creations. Like... both HE and his own creations were making the same mistake and it could have been a really intriguing element to explore. Instead you have one scene of Adam Warlock with HE and then nothing beyond some allegories if you squint real hard.

I havent been up to speed on comics for awhile but the High Evolutionary I'm pretty sure was just kind of a neutral force in the Marvel universe. And he did not create adam. I can't remember their name but it was some cult that made him.

1>3>2 is my ranking also, really liked the 3rd one except how bad they derped Adam Warlock. Guy can wield the infinity gauntlet himself in the comics and he was a sniveling brat in the movie.

It's weird that they always separated Rocket from the rest of the team after the first movie.

There's a lot of background between Gamora, Nebula and Thanos that could have been touched on a lot more imo. Even flashback sequences, it kind of shows how awful and competitive Gamora was and contributed a lot of Nebulas overall mindset.

To be fair on the brat, he wasn't done cooking yet when they pulled him out of his cocoon/casket/maguffin.

Fucking loved the body horror in it, felt like James Gunn channeling his Slither days for GOTG 3. Also the gore near the end of the movie was pretty shocking to see ngl

Holding any MCU movie up against the comic books is a fool's errand. They just aren't interested in a panel-for-panel recreation of any of it. The movies are more "inspired by" than anything

I know nothing about Adam Warlock other than the name so whatever they did with him was unimportant to me. I thought it was funny how derpy he was.

I'm sure they would have if Zoe Saldana hadn't said she was done.

I think part of it was showing how his past trauma isolates him from others. He thinks he is a freak unworthy of love and he pushes others away. Even when he finally thinks he is accepted in 3 the trauma comes back.

But the derping made sense. He got pulled out too early by a guy who thought he knew better than he actually did.

Plus it's clear this was an intro to him and he's gonna be around, so they'll develop him over time

Am I the only one that thought Nebula was just terrible in this movie? I dont mean plot wise, but acting wise. It was never good in the previous ones but it was just so over the top on this one every time she spoke.

No, you're right. She was extremely one-dimensional. Seemed completely phoned in.

Wat's funny is that the best acting performance was from a CGI raccoon

When it comes to Adam I think Gunn just throw him in the second one because it would be cool. However when it came for movie time , figured that he could not be as powerful as he should be without just throwing everything off.

I overall liked Adam and how he came to understand that hurting others was bad. Overall I liked most of it. But HE was just such a horrible person. The people on counter Earth loved him. A little baby animal person even had doll that looked like him. And he is just going to kill them. He knows that these beings have feelings and he still just wipes them like he is teenage playing the Sims. Fuck that dude.

He was a god to them. He was their creator. But he didn't give a shit about their admiration. They were a failed experiment, no different than the animals he incinerated or the other countries civilizations he razed. Same with rocket and the others. They were not perfect, thus they were failed experiments to be discarded. In a way they were no different to HE then the animals and the "lower life forms" we kill with no thought. No one is going to mourn over all the cows we kill for example. It's just to HE, all imperfect beings are the equivalent of that.

Of course, the issue beyond how evil he was is its all hypocritical. HE himself was a brilliant, but hideously imperfect being. He called the animals in rockets batch disfigured when he himself is. He constantly makes errors. He pulled Adam out of the cocoon too quickly because he's rash and impatient. He could have shown rocket and his friends love and care and got rockets admiration and skill but instead he openly bragged about discarding him and them. He makes constantly poor decisions and becomes more and more unhinged. He was never going to make a perfect civilization because he was nothing short of a mad scientist who considered himself more intelligent than he actually was

I kind of disagree with that as well. I view Adam as recognizing "threats are getting more and more powerful to the point of dimensional threats, thus we need more and more powerful heroes". However, instead they have Adam start off as strong, but hideously immature and inexperienced. Thus they can develop him over the next movies. Because it's clear that he's gonna be a player in future movies. It makes sense from that perspective, even if it is a bit cringe compared to other iterations of him.

I can get this. At the same time, I thought they did a good job with him. Quill was going through shit because he was struggling that so many people he got closed to just either died or, in the case of Ego, was power mad and he had to kill him. Which triggered trauma in Rocket because his father was also a power mad man who tried to kill him, and his close friends all died (which Rocket blamed himself for). So Rocket was super withdrawn at the start, which the movie then explained and resolved.

I really thought they nailed character development. We get "daughter of Thanos " Gamora, which nebula can actually deal with because she actually knew that Gamora. At the same time, once she actually sees Peter and the group in action, she starts to soften, similar to how she did in the first movie. Nebula is continuing to become more of her own person and dealing with others. Mantis gains in self confidence, and Drax shows his value.

I just thought they nailed this movie across the board.
