Well, that's why I'm asking. Because i watched a video of a guy on a skateboard getting stopped by mall security and they eventually call the police. The guy tells the cops he likes to open carry and I said to myself "Huh, you like carrying? You mean you get some kind of joy out of openly carrying a rifle?" And then I googled why people open carry and it seems like they do it as a deterrent.

Because nothing solves people shooting each other than having people visibly carry guns around.

Openly brandishing a weapon is generally seen as a threat and/or escalation in most of the world. Escalation is one of the major problems that the USA has.

agreed. there was this one time a whole bunch of gun nuts decided to protest outside a brewery restaurant for a whole day because the owner/employees didn't like the rifle men having guns out since it scares the customers.

it's also that same group who protested the beach closure that lasted for a year and a half due to the covid pandemic.

I prefer open carry over concealed carry because of the guns i like to carry every day.

I like the full framed pistols (especially my 1911) and when you CC it just feels lumpy.

Open carry makes no sense 99% of the time and is just pathetic people using a tool of death for intimidation. I don't view concealed carry much different.

We currently have something like 400 million guns out in the wild, for our population of 330 million people.

What, exactly, is the threshold for guns sold supposed to be for the "good guy with a gun" myth to become a reality and stop mass shooters?

Cuz from where I'm sitting we're approaching a 125% saturation level, and there never seems to be this gun-toting hero around to stop the bad guy. Ever.

I cannot think of a single reason for open carry except to give assholes a reason to intimidate people around them

Open carry is dumb, I don't want people to know I have a gun on me

No. The want to murder people is the problem. See I could carry a gun my whole life and never use it against another person. If there were no guns the murderer would find another way. Guns are just more accessible.

No, I don't trust everyone open and carrying to be trained in such a situation. Mass panic, mothers killing sons, Uncles trying to play hero and getting shot by police officers.

Assuming it was actually enforced, of course. The list of things that would actually cause a street-to-street civil war are few. This is almost certainly one of them.

Im not saying all gun owners are like that. Im saying that all open- and concealed-carry people that cant go out without their guns are, though.

I am of the belief that American culture as a whole is too prone to escalate violence.

Open carry is dumb. I feel pretty insecure with the people i see with guns in the grocery store. Like, i really don't feel like half of these people even have proper training. The ones carrying it around their junk really confirm it is a second penis for them.

The problem is the cops then. And even if the cops catch someone and see the gun is concealed, they shoot the person. Hell, cops get trigger happy over literal nothings.

The last thing you want on your person during a mass shooting is a gun. Cops will think you are the shooter. Also, there have been times when armed citizens shoot at the shooter. It seems like they usually either miss or the shooter has armor on. Most people tend to carry around weaker guns than the mass shooters use

That's because they're lying and only want to sell more guns. (this isn't news though)

That said (here in the Deep South) I'll probably keep one in my car in a few years because it's only a matter of time before someone tries to run me down and I need some kind of defense. Southerners are fucking lunatics and I would rather risk someone being harmed by me than me or my loved ones being harmed due to an angry driver with a Napoleon complex.
