They're the generation that went through life pampered on easy mode (socially & domestically speaking), pulled up the ladder behind them, and then gets annoyed when younger generations point out they literally can't just do it similar how to boomers did because it's just not feasible in modern times.

The average boomer literally cannot naturally understand or comprehend how difficult it is for younger generations to survive because they think back to how they paid their way through college with a part-time summer job and got a house on a single income and it just doesn't click. Don't get me wrong, they can read, research, and come to conclusions that give them an educated understanding, but speaking as a generalized whether or not their generation can understand what it's like naturally, they can't.

In contrast, Mills, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha can better relate because things only get worse as time goes on and those generations have felt it to some degree so they can actually understand having to live with multiple roommates while you work multiple jobs just to rent an apartment in a major city or the necessitation of having a dual income for a family to survive.

Regardless of how they view us, we have the ability to not repeat the generational trauma that is older generations shitting on younger ones for no reason other than them merely existing or being different from them.

I actually make it a point to not do that.

It's fine if I don't understand hyper reality as long as I don't link that into being why society is crumbling and it's all the "gip gip goop's" generation's fault even though my generation was the one actively creating the situations that the goopers are complaining about. (gip gip goop is something the kids will be saying in 2050 that comes to define their generation, bank on it).

That's exactly the point. The boomers feel they were fucked by the previous generations: having to fight against the old guard for civil rights, being drafted to Vietnam, the environmental catastrophes and oil crisis of the 70s, living through the real fear of annihilation during the Cold War. All of this, the fault of those old people in power.

Gen Beta will be pointing the finger at Millenials and Gen Z and wanting to know why they haven't made life any better, now they are in office.

Well it's certainly something I had to learn to do after coming to the realization that I was continuing a cycle I was decrying against my own generation. I too hope that I don't lose my way and fall back into that age-old trap. I'm willing to accept being confused and confounded by new day tech or lingo, just as long as it doesn't turn me hateful or embittered & condemning a generation over something so frivolous, like avocado toast.

No doubt, myself as well. One time at a previous job a customer claimed they had bought Apple stock early on and foolishly sold it a few years later. They were...not thrilled at their decision, to say the least.

My favorite* is how you can tell their brains are practically broken when you tell them no or cant get what they want immediately.

Like, they expect everything to be available to them all the time. I get customers calling in asking when parts for their system theyve ordered will be available, I politely explain that I dont have that information and will reach out to our warehouse and call them back. People lose their goddamned minds over an answer like that lol. Like, sorry you created an economy where every business ever is understaffed.

*its not really my favorite. Its actually stressful as fuck getting screamed at all day for things that arent my fault

While I think we are also pretty entitled and have no patience as well, there is still a notable difference with millennials and younger generations. Gen X and above are still pretty conservative as an overall group, while that's beginning to plummet more and more for each younger generation.

The issue is that we'll probably still not have our voice heard even as we become more of a majority voice.

Its less about nepotism than it is opportunity. When white boomers were growing up, it was the post WW2 boom when the US was on top of the world, and you could go to college for dirt cheap and pay for that and a new car at the same time with a part time summer job.

A nice home cost $50,000 and a father of a family of four could comfortably afford the mortgage and supporting the family as the sole breadwinner. Unions were strong, they got great pensions when it came time to retire, etc.

Then when the boomers were actually the ones running companies and making government policy, they gutted unions and started the Reaganomics downward spiral that has increased income inequality to levels not seen since the days of feudalism.

Obviously boomers of other races didnt have those same opportunities.

I guess my issue with the life on easy mode argument is it's really ignoring a lot of things about life and society people take for granted now

Not having religion forced down your throat as much. Both my parents had to go to church every Sunday growing up and were scared as shit about going to hell if they had pre marital sex and other nonsense

Not having teachers rule over you as a student like an army general, corporal punishment etc

More vaccines and treatments for ailments and diseases, just advancements for medicine in general. Now I live in Australia with free health care so maybe scratch this one for Americans as I know access is an issue

An actual understanding of mental health and depression. One flew over the cuckoos nest anybody?

Crazy advancements in technology ie smart phones let us order a wide variety of food without getting off the couch or even speaking to a human

I'm not saying the issues regarding expensive housing and stuff aren't legitimate issues, but life wasn't one big party for Boomers growing up. There's a lot of challenges they had to face that we didn't

Wrong. You're getting your generations mixed up.

German Boomers had a deep antipathy for Nazis, and hated the fact that a lot of them remained in positions of power after the war.

They were the ones who ended up founding the Red Army Faction, and protesting the power of the state.

To be fair, those are West Germans. East Germans never went through that and their disgruntled children are largely fueling the modern AfD. My cousin who was raised in Germany had to leave in the early 90s because they were burning down buildings where a lot of non-Germans worked and lived. She returned a few years later after things died down to a degree.

This is true, but there were still a bunch of Boomers who claimed to be hippies after the fact because hippies were considered cool back in their youths. Just because they smoked pot and fucked a black person once back in college does not make them a hippie. It was practically a cliche that every Boomer was at Woodstock.

My question is, why the hell does Gen X seem to get off the hook so often?

They're literally Boomers-lite, but act like the "lite" moniker means they were screwed just as badly as millennials or gen z, despite them being much closer to boomers in terms of wealth, benefits, and property ownership. They pretend to be these grizzled, dont-give-a-fuck badasses who live outside the issue, while also parroting mostly boomer talking points. And I swear to God, damn near every "Ok boomer" I've ever thought has been directed at a Gen Xer
