I mean many dogs will try to bite you for no other reason than just being in it's personal space and walking by them if they don't recognize you. Have any of you ever had this happen with a cat?

The only time a house cat would attack is if it's abused

Not true. I have a cat that hates the sound of sneezes, and will attack (very rarely) if he hears it. And I mean rarely, because over the course of the 5 years I've had him, he's only done it 3 times. The rest of the time, he just runs into my room to meow incessantly

People treat all animals like they are all good and innocent. But like rapists and muderers in humans, there are assholes as well in animals.

My older cat will signal that she's finished allowing you to pet her with a (relatively) light bite, and will bite if she's pissed off, obviously.

My young cat just likes to gnaw on you out of nowhere. I've been told it's a phase.

Someone trying to pet a cat and getting rebuted, all the time. Cats chasing down people in the street on a mission to gore them, super rare.

I mean an actual attack and not just an annoyed smack/bite

My friends cat will hide around corners and behind the tv waiting for me and pounce to try and scare me when I walk by

It's harmless but I dunno if it's playing or genuinely trying to ambush me

Oh, I absolutely mean an attack.

This last time he did it, I was in my computer chair when I sneezed, he came running in to the room to whine at me (as he does), and I just ignored him. After about a minute, he jumped at my arm (that was resting on the armrest), fully wrapping his claws around it and biting. Left a scar too.

What's really weird, is that it is specifically sneezes that trigger him. Coughing, yelling, loud music, etc.. No other loud noise causes any sort of response (not even a pre-recorded sneeze played via my speakers). Which makes it harder to try to condition him to be okay with it, because it's not exactly something I can plan ahead of.

A friend has a cat that goes from purring to viciously mauling feet with no warning.

He's such a good kitty, no amount of mauling can cause me to be upset with him.

house cats generally don't attack people to the point of maiming or death because they aren't big enough but large cats have done that kinda thing obv

when my cat plays with my roomate's french bulldog she goes straight for his throat and his thighs. if her mouth was big enough she'd kill him without hesitation

on the other hand he'll stick her entire leg in his mouth and only bite down a little but Im scared of the day he bites down hard

We had this cat in Rowland Heights who just showed up one day and made the backyard his home. His name was Red Man, and he would often act like he wanted you to pet him then claw or bite you the shit outta you. He was a mean cat. I cried when he died anyway. I like other people's cats, I'd never have one as a pet.

I had a stray cat ready to pounce as I passed by, apparently too close for comfort. However once it realized I genuinely hadn't noticed it at all until it stepped forward, it backed up and settled down, presumably where it was prior.

To TCs point, I suspect the average dog might not come to such a realization before giving a warning bite.

my grandma had a cat that was mean as fuck
would legit just try to maul your ass for walking through the room, and he was a pretty big boy too
after she died we took him in and got him registered with our vet, found out he was diabetic
after getting diabetes treatment, he was the sweetest cat in the world
was weird
