Bill Maher definitely the kind of dude who can't cope with a movie based around addressing what it means to be a woman existing within a male-dominated society. Not surprised by this at all. No doubt he took the right-wing interpretation that the overall message is pro-matriarchy when the actual message is neither sex should have a stranglehold on dictating society because then that leads to discrimination, social ills, and conflict.

Bill Maher spent his entire life being attacked for his views.

As such he's now created a complex where he believes his views are correct if they are being attacked...

Since about 2019 or so, I've been genuinely curious as to whom his target audience is now. He's swung so far right over the last 4~ years.

Boomers. He straddles the fence and targets boomers. Right wing boomers like him because he's "one of the libs that isn't all crazy" and left wing boomers like him because, like them, he tells people he's liberal but isn't.

To be fair, Bill Mahers schtick about men being treated unfairly has always been a thing, even when he was a liberal darling.

I remember him making jokes a decade ago about TV sitcoms and how the dad is always a bumbling moron that the mum picks on, rather than back in the leave it to beaver days when the dad was the wise voice of reason.

He's only getting flak for it now because people don't like him for other things.
