If he started to break out from comedy and do drama and get more experience with that and have better material to work with, I think he'd be getting props from fans and critics after a few years like other comedic actors got. Of course that's if he could have gotten his issues under control as well. If I remember right, he wanted to do a Fatty Arbuckle biography movie and was in the process of getting the project started before he died.
