I've ripped out the big toenail after a drawer fell out of a cabinet and on my foot. The pain is so sudden and quick that I can't really say it's that bad. You're just in a state of "holy fuck that hurt", and then you look at your nail and it's just yanked out.

What sucks is going to the doctor and having them remove it the safe way, with shots and anticipation, and watching them brutally shove a metal tool under your healthy nail and rip it out like it was nothing is the stuff of nightmares. Ever since then I've been petrified of shots. I prefer the drawer.

My big toe nail falls off more or less every time I ski. I must lean back too far or something.

I've had my big toenails partially removed three times, if memory serves. I had some very persistent infected ingrown toenail issues, so I had a ~3 mm sliver of the left one removed, then a ~3 mm sliver of the right one a few months later, then a little over half of the left one a few months after that. The freezing did its job, so the actual removal wasn't bad, but removing the bandage afterwards was pretty rough because it was quite thoroughly stuck to the damaged nail bed.

Never fully lost a fingernail, but I've had knives slip while chopping things and take a large enough chunk out of the nail that I got into the nail bed. That's always particularly rough if I manage to cut through the nail, but not actually sever it from the nail bed, so it's just floating free of the rest of the nail while tugging very painfully on the bed.

that seems awful lol the surgeries, altho minor. and yeah there have been close calls for sure, broken/cracked nails or anything slipping under seems common! it really sucks wen something slips under and lifts a nail slightly

I was picking up a chair at McDonald's once and the one section wasn't attached right and when I sat down it ended up smashing my pinky finger, lost the whole nail.

Well, not that hardcore. I dont go much anymore, in part because of the toe issue. I didnt make it out this year.

I thought about going last year specifically to get a nail off so I could spray the athletes foot fungus creeping under one.

When I was really young I accidentally smashed my hand in a car door and I guess one of my fingers was really bad because I remember one of my fingernails falling out a couple days later.

Sort of. I was helping a relative move something very heavy and she shoved it hard onto my foot, and part of the nail cut into my toe and was bleeding.

Sorry the thread title triggered Simpsons flashbacks.

Yeah I get queasy around fingers and shit. I'd rather watch someone get their whole hand cut off than a finger haha.

surprisingly no

opened a heavy glass door over my big toe wearing sandals, bled for hours, had weird white gunk that was kinda hardened come out of it for like a month

everyone thought it would fall off but didn't, urgent care thought so too, but like half the nail bed is detached now

I'm not even sure what caused it, but I have lost a nail on one of my big toes. It wasn't too big of a deal, though.

Just look away, trust me. You won't even feel it if you're just playing subway surfer.

Just because of this topic I had a night terror that two guys walked in my room and gave me a shot in the eyeball.

lol trapped in the snapper

nah it was two separate incidents - once when I was about 4 or 5 and another when I was about 20.

The one that happened when I was little came about as I was chasing my older brother through our apartment. He ran out the front door and slammed it behind him. I went to catch the door as it closed and got the tip of my index finger pinched/smashed. Doctors grafted skin from my thigh to my fingertip. It's a bit deformed but mostly usable. The only real limiting defect is that the skin there doesn't callous as well. Sometimes the skin chaps in the winter

The second time I cut my finger off was way worse. I had been working in a nursery greenhouse and was pulling this tiered trolley full of seedling flats through one of the doors to a greenhouse. As I was passing through the door, my pinky finger got smashed between the metal handle of the trolley and the metal door jamb. It was nearly completely severed between the second and third knuckles. Snapped the bone and tendons. Was hanging by a thin strip of flesh. At the emergency room they called in a special hand surgeon to save my finger from needing amputation. Took him hours to arrive because he was on vacation lol but he apparently worked a miracle from what the other doctors told me. I had a pin in my finger for weeks and had gone back to work after like two days and kept hitting the pin against shit and needing to get it reset lol

That finger is usable and has strength but I can't bend it fully. Looks kinda gnarly, too

They had me lay down and shot up my toe in 3 places. When it wasn't fully numb they shot it 2 more times. Didn't feel a thing after that.

I was trying to get my hockey bag in the door once and it got stuck and somehow when trying to get it unstuck I swung the door into my toe. My toe nail was bent at the midpoint straight into the air, so I couldn't rip it off or flatten it back down. A podiatrist had to numb my toe then remove it

I've bitten and torn up my nails but never lost a whole one at once.

My dad did. We were on vacation in vegas and his suitcase jammed into his toe, causing his entire big toe nail to rip off clean. He kept it, took it home and it was sitting on the table as kind of a joke. I wanted to touch it because since I bit my nails and such I always liked when a huge piece of the white stuff would come off, but the entire nail? damn.

But ma threw it out thinking it was a corn chip. Boooo ma
