Yes but it's mainly for the mashed potatoes, broccoli and toast clean up. I don't pour sauce onto the steak, just maybe dab it in.

Like A1? No not my thing. But a whiskey cream sauce or a shallot and red wine reduction can be very nice on a steak.

there are killer steak sauces that will, depending on the cut the temp and the crust, make a great steak next level good (good horseradish, fresh made bearnaise sauce [jar shit is fuckin less than worthless] , compound butters, etc.)

a1 and similar vinegar based sauces typically referred to as "steak sauce" are not those and belong nowhere near a fuckin steak. they are occasionally good on burgers tho

Definitely. I don't think of things like butter, horseradish and bernaise as "steak sauce" though.

I don't get the controversy about putting sauce on steak. Just about any type of meat can be improved through condiments. The only exceptions are those that have been in a phenomenal marinade which the average steak has not.

That said, A1 goes better with hot dogs than anything else.

At home maybe just a few dabs of hotsauce with the butter.

Out to eat if they offer a house steak sauce I'll take it, otherwise just whatever it's served with so long as it isn't horseradish or mustard based (don't like either and allergic to mustard anyways).

If something vinegar based like A1 is already at the table I'll put like a quarter sized dollop on my plate for light dipping, but I don't ask for it.

Basically I just try to be a fucking normal human being about it and not make how a chunk of cow is eaten into a big deal.

A good steak doesn't need any kind of sauce on it. The only time I put sauce on a steak is if someone cheaped out and bought low quality meat or didn't cook it properly.

I mean, many chefs do serve steaks with sauces. This seems a really weird line.

Nothing wrong with a good steak with no sauce. Nothing wrong with preferring that either, but theres a reason that most good steak places offer a variety of sauces and butters to go on your steak.

If the chef prepared the sauce, then that's fine. It's as the chef intended.

Thinking that a professionally prepared steak requires salt of shitty bottled sauce is the problem

Depends on the steak. Sometimes, yes, you are eating a bad cut of steak and a sauce will bring the flavor and is the profile you are aiming for. If you spent some real money on a nice cut you should probably focus on the steak itself, otherwise it is like forking out for saffron threads then dying the food with red food coloring....why spend the money? All that being said, I personally don't hate A1, actually I quite like it but it really only belongs with crap cuts or on ground beef. A horseradish sauce is almost always better but both are just there to break up the monotony of what is usually a large hunk of protein with no real change in flavor for a good amount of food.

tbh the only cuts that really benefit from marinades are those like flank and skirt afaik

thicker cuts like ribeye/strip/filet wont really see any benefit that couldnt be provided by a sauce/glaze/seasoned crust because iirc marinades wont penetrate further than somewhere between 1/16" and 1/8"

stuff like marinated flank fajitas are dope tho

Bottled sauces are garbage. A1 is for burgers, not steaks.

For a leaner cut of meat like filet mignon, it's typically served with a sauce like Barnaise.

For a fatty cut of steak like a ribeye or new york strip, they don't typically need a sauce. The existing fat does all the heavy lifting.

You literally cant taste anything but the steak sauce, so youre basically telling the chef they did a shitty job. I find it insulting every time I grill my dad a steak and he ruins it with A1. Besides, most people that do this either do it because they ordered the steak ruined (medium well or well done) which is a worse crime, or because their parents did it etc., and they have never tried it any other way and thus dont know any better.

This, I only tend to sauce ribs and pulled pork as far as meats go and what I cook. I dont even sauce wings. I will occasionally do barbecue chicken.

The blood was drained from the carcass before it was butchered. What you see on the plate is myoglobin, a protein found in the muscle fibers.
