I first saw it as "Imagine if Twitter was posting Barbie posing in Auschwitz because a holocaust movie was coming out"

And I was like "well yeah, that's exactly what would happen"

Twitter made memes about the Turning Red panda crashing into the twin towers just because a c-list youtube reviewer mentioned its absence in a video. The idea Barbenheimer is due to something like a specific moral blindspot in Americans' understanding of the bombs is absurd.

The difference between Japan and Vietnam or Iraq is the killing of millions of citizens not involved in the war, so I'd say some sympathy is definitely called for.

They're offended that people are making jokes about the atomic bomb. It's a very serious matter for them.

So to demonstrate this, they tried to make jokes out of 9/11 but we just took it as inspiration to make even more jokes about 9/11.

I'm not going to pretend to understand what it's like to be a Japanese person with having the a bombs a part of their history, however unless Opp specifically shows the dropping of the bombs (my understanding is it's just the development and testing of it) then it's not really comparable, because 9/11 was specifically people dying on that day. A more apt comparison (unless I'm wrong about the aforementioned) would be a movie/memes detailing how AQ trained for the hijacking and what skills they learned through U.S. institutions.

While there are some people who will get offended by 9/11 memes, its probably better to point out how there were dumbass Americans who were celebrating earthquakes and tsunamis as retribution for Pearl Harbor.

Well technically Japanese military were still "citizens" of Japan so we may have gotten a few million depending on what you mean by 'we'. The Japanese tactics played a role in that. When they ran out of ammo and food they would banzai charge US troops and get mowed down.
